Top Mast Cafe was one of several restaurants that we dined at while on vacation the last week of June, and it quickly became our favorite for a number of reasons. First, the cafe's location was an easy three-minute walk from our hotel, the Horizon Beach Resort, just down the road. Secondly, their menu featured a good selection and variety of meals at fair prices. Actually, many of their prices were very reasonable when compared to some other restaurants in the surrounding area. Thirdly, the food quality and portion sizes were some of the best that we had during our week-long stay. Add to that, the service we received for every meal was truly outstanding and consistently the best. They offer patio dining as well as indoor dining. We ate several meals here, and dining on their patio made for a very pleasant atmosphere for each of those meals. It didn't matter if it was breakfast or dinner, the food was delicious, the portion sizes were filling, and the service was the best. Our food was always cooked properly and served up without any long waits. We never had a food or service quality issue with any of our meals. While we did splurge on a couple of our meals here, generally, we found many of the prices here to be an affordable option, and a good value based on food quality and portion size for this area. To distill down the costs, our total breakfast bill for two meals ranged from $25 to $40, while our total dinner bill for two meals ranged from $36 to $61 over the course of multiple days. As good as the food was, I have to comment on the service we received during each of our visits. The wait staff consisted of several young people who provided us with the best and most attentive service of any of the restaurants we visited during our vacation. We were simply blown away by the service from Desi, George, Karine, and Syusi. Each of them was friendly, courteous, polite, very engaging, efficient and, above all, very professional. We could not have asked for better service than what we received from each of them. We had opportunities to chat with each of them at length and learned a bit about them. Our interactions with each of them added a lot to our dining experiences here. I compliment the management for having such an outstanding team. It goes without saying, based on multiple visits here, I highly recommend both the food and the service at the Top Mast Café. Enjoy, and thanks...
Read moreThis is my first time writing a review on an establishment and unfortunately it is not a positive one. I am giving a one star strictly on the customer service aspect of this restaurant. I did not have a chance to try their food due to the exceptionally long wait that we had to endure. First I'll list the positive qualities if this cafe before I dive a bit deeper. great location/layout -lovely presentation of the drinks, specificity of their hot water/tea. It was simple but also unique.
Now I'll list the negative qualities -the long wait for only breakfast items/poor customer service: I completely understand that we came on a holiday, father's day to be exact, so we were more than aware that it will be busier than usual and it will take awhile to receive our food. However what did not make sense was that one) we were not the only table who were waiting a long time for our food orders/ there were multiple, and two) there were quite a few open tables around so the restaurant was not completely packed when we arrived/stayed. And three) NO ONE came to check on us if we needed anything or to apologize for the long wait.
Had anyone, and I mean ANYONE came to our table and simply said "I'm sorry for the wait, we are trying the best that we can with the given situation. Is there anything I can do for you?" Then we would have been more than understanding and we would have stayed. However we had to flag down a waiter, asked if the status of our food order can be checked, and were basically told. "There are a long line of tickets, your food will be ready when it's ready." It would have been nice to be checked on at least once.
After waiting over an hour, we both decided to leave and to only pay for our drinks. When we arrived to the front to notify them of our decision, we were told to wait again and that just now they are making our food. Again to specify, As we were approaching the front desk and after telling the waiter we were leaving, we were told that the kitchen just started making our food. Our food was NEVER delivered as we were leaving.
I completely understand that due to C-19 things are very different and its a learning curve for everyone. However, I am just very disappointed regarding the customer service aspect...
Read moreIf I could discribe this resturant in one word it would be............TRASH !!! My family STILL hasn’t gotten our food yet! Even after over an HOUR of waiting! My sister got her muffin early, and it tasted like bleach, when it was supposingly “apple cinnamon flavored”! My 11 year old cousin specifically asked for a regular sized cup instead of a kids one, and instead she was the ONLY PERSON at the table to get a kids cup. We all are DYING right now as we still haven’t gotten our food yet. Let’s not even talk about the “bathrooms”! One little DIRTY toilet in a DISGUSTING little room for a whole resturant filled with unhappy customers. I kept looking every second to see if it was finally open, but when I finally got in, there was hair and pee all over the ground and toilet. This is completely NASTY! Now, let’s get onto the fish pond. The poor coy fish look super hungry, and let’s not even talk about the disgusting, green, dirty, water that they were swimming in. This is again completely NASTY!! After TWO WHOLE HOURS OF WAITNG, WE STILL HAVN’T GOTTEN OUR FOOD YET! My family was the first to come to the resturant, and still the last ones to be served. We came all the way up to cape cod to watch the Fourth of July parade, and we purposely came to this resturant VERY EARLY so we could see it! Well.... guess my family won’t now. We FINALLY got our food and my mother got uncooked eggs, cold hasbrowns and sausage. My cousin got SOUR, MUSHY “strawberries”, and my lactose intolerant aunt asked for them to go low on the cheese on her meal, and instead they put TWO BIG FAT PIECES OF CHEESE ON IT! Finally, when we asked when our food was going to be ready, the resturant staff acted EXTREMELY harsh towards us, while we are their paying customers. The members in our family worked very hard at school and at work, and is finally on our well waited and deserved vacation. The HORRIBLE experience we had here already basically ruined it ! Now, we can’t even see the parade that we went through a six hour car ride to see! Because of this, our family of all smiles is now one...
