This was our first time at K.D.'s Sea Shack. The beer was good and very reasonably priced. We started with the appetizer of Lobster Mac & Cheese and a cup of Conch Chowder. The Mac & Cheese was very good and so was the chowder. Although, the chowder was only lukewarm, we think it should have been hot. We were already discussing what we would try next time, until the entree. We were seated with a clear view of the window where the food is handed out. Our waitress was busy doing something else, so our food sat there. The manager was making a mixed drink and ignored the plates sitting in the window, our table was only five steps away. Our waitress came back to tell us our food would be out shortly. We told her it had been sitting in the window. She brought the food. We had to ask for the salads that came with our meal which should have been served already. I had the snow crab legs, which by now were lukewarm. The baked potato was also lukewarm, but I don't think it was ever hot enough to melt butter. My husband had the scallops with fries. There were four scallops that appeared to be what would be available from a food service company. The fries, dark brown and lots of small pieces, although tasted OK, did not look appetizing. The appearance of the plating was not what one would expect from a restaurant at that price point. The waitress brought our bill without offering dessert. We expressed concern about getting our salads after the entrees. Her excuse was that she was the only server and offered for us to speak to the manager. We didn't ask for anything and would not have accepted anything. However, an offer of a dessert to go would have gone a long way. There were only a handful of customers when our order was taken. I don't think customers should be expected to accept poor service because the wait staff is poorly trained. A good server would have easily handled the number of customers present...
Read moreUpdate - we have been back many times since last year and have enjoyed it every time! When we have family visit, it's the first restaurant we take them to!!! Last night, we went for Valentines dinner and again they totally knocked our socks off!!! Our waitress Joy was outstanding and really took care of us. From the oysters on a half shell to the lobster Mac n cheese, from the perfectly cooked filet to the tender lobster meat, and through to our luxurious in-house made desserts, every bite was delicious!!!!
What a perfect new restaurant for our town of Tryon! When I saw they had opened this week, I knew we had to stop in ASAP especially given it is owned & operated by Katie from Katie Ds Bagels also in town & a much loved sandwich shop by us. It did NOT disappoint! From walking in and being warmly welcomed by the chefs mother to our stellar waitress whom was warm, friendly, and attentive, to the FANTASTIC food, our experience exceeded expectations.
We enjoyed an appetizer of stuffed clams which were yummy and the perfect serving size (only suggestion i have is to serve an even amount of clams for sharing so there are no fights over whom gets the last one:))& a tasty fresh salad with the perfect funky Bleu cheese dressing before enjoying our entrees of lobster Mac & cheese (me) and red snapper (hubby). Trust me when I say it tasted as good as it looks!!!
And you need to try their made-in house desserts of NY cheesecake & carrot cake! Soooo good!
I guarantee we will be back again & again and my husband & I thank Katie and her husband for opening this perfect addition to our town and wish them the best in their...
Read moreMy wife and I ate dinner here last night based on a previous visit where we ate brunch - not terrible - but above par. We learned from the manager at that time, that they served a variety of seafood and how good it all was. Being a New Englander and longing for real seafood we decided to try it last night. It was horrible. The service, the food, and the prices. After we ordered drinks, we started with appetizers - calamari and oysters on the half shell. My wife asked for mignonette sauce. They did not know how to make it and it was proven out when it came to the table- HOT - when it should have been made ahead of time, refrigerated for a day or two and served cold - SOP. It tasted lousy. Next came the calamari which was very salty (who salts calamari?) and the breading was crumbling all over. Above it all, the appetizers came but there were NO PLATES! We actually had to ask for plates that came dripping wet -apparently from the sink. The horrible food parade continued. After the appetizer mess, we made the mistake of ordering dinner. Thankfully, we decided to split a dish - the fish and chips. The breading was too thick and basically fell apart while the fish was extremely watery and had no substance or flavor. It came with a baked potato and sadly, that was actually the best part of the dinner, but marginally so. Oh by the way, the dinner, like the appetizer, came without plates. The bill with tip was $85. I’ve never spent that much for such a poor quality meal that was way over priced. It’s a place you eat at but at least...
