Hops Sports Grill — Restaurant in Tucson

Man, I want so badly to like Hops, especially since I work close by and it would be convenient for lunch. Unfortunately, I just continue to have negative experiences. Now I will say, their burgers are very tasty. The meat is seasoned well and the quality is there, so that’s good. The cook is doing his/her job well.

First, I would like to say that I think they’ve always been a bit overpriced, from the time I first tried them over a year ago. Recently, I’ve ordered takeout twice and both times have not been provided or even offered plastic ware or a napkin. Both times I brushed it off as a petty complaint.

But most recently, I ordered a regular burger and once I got back to the office, I realized it literally was just meat and bun. In the past, I’ve ordered a burger and it’s come with lettuce, onion, etc.

I see below another customer has complained about this and the restaurant kinda passed the blame back to the customer for “not asking for it”. Folks, we as the customer should not have to ask for regular restaurant burger toppings, especially when it’s $14+ for said burger. If you are trying to save money and prevent products from being wasted, your server should ask if we want the toppings. Not us, and flipping the blame back to the customer is pretty rude. I understand and acknowledge times are tough for all of us, financial strain on business is high and costs are probably being cut at every corner. But you guys must also acknowledge that your customers income may also be strained and the last thing I want to do is spend an hour of my hard earned wages on a meat only burger with no napkin or plastic ware (I ordered a side salad, plastic ware should have been provided).

Sorry and sad to leave this review, but I just feel...

Disappointed with my last experience here. I have been here a few times and have been impressed in the past, but this time was different. We went to watch Sunday football, per usual, and we could not even stand to finish our game due to the loud and unruly children in the corner. The obstacle course they created en route to the bathrooms and back-room HAD to be a fire hazard; children screaming and running up and down the dining area was obnoxious and unsafe for all; and the fact that the owner attempted nothing to remedy the situation was discouraging. We planned on enjoying dinner there during the 4th quarter, but opted to leave because of the entirely ruined experience. Those particularly loud families may have enjoyed their time - and may be back; but I have a feeling that the jarring experience for others wont have outweighed those couple loud families claiming their stake. I would have liked to see some attempt by the staff to manage the chaos. If I wanted to leave my dining experience hungry and with a splitting headache, I'd have hunted down the nearest McDonald's playhouse.. that might have even been an improvement. I really hope these guys can create a more enjoyable environment for all during my next annual Tuscon trip. They have a lot going for them.. this was just a bad miss. This place claims to be following social distancing, they are not, the restraunt was packed the bar was elbow to elbow and basically every table inside and out were occupied. When we arrived they took our temperature, but the hostess was incredibly rude, probably because we were wearing masks, and set us outside on a patio full of people smoking but instead of taking us to our seats opened the door tossed the menus down on the dirty, unwiped table, and said, "enjoy" with her back to us already walking away. We saw a bottle labeled cleaner and some paper towels near by on an empty buffet table. We tried to use it to clean the table but the spray bottle didn't work. We poured the bleach substance on the table and wiped it away. We sat in our seat for 10 minutes gagging on the smoke, and no server even came by our table to tell us it would be a minute, however several of the smokers were able to order drinks and recieve them in this time on the patio. Basically this place does not care about the health and well being of thier customers, and will treat you poorly if you show up wearing a mask.
