My family and I went to this location to celebrate my wife's and my anniversary, so we ordered a good amount of food. We had a pretty good experience, and I would love to give this place five stars, but it isn't quite there yet, and I will get to that shortly.
Our server was Cassidy, and she was spot on with making sure drinks were maintained, the table was cleared, and we were comfortable. She gave food suggestions to help us navigate the menu.
We ordered the appetizer sampler, kids' ramen, the experience roll, groupie roll, and thriller roll. The appetizer sampler had crab rangoon, pot stickers, egg rolls, and fried crab jalapeno poppers. The kids' ramen was a standard store-bought ramen. The experience roll has a mango on top, rice, fried shrimp, cucumber, and a tiny portion of cream cheese (I think). The groupie roll has crab on top, rice, fried shrimp, and cream cheese. The thriller was a fried roll of stuff I can't remember lol.
Now, going over the flavor of the food. This is all off my personal preference, and by no means was any of the food bad. So, on the sampler, I liked the crab rangoon and the pot sticker, but the other two items were not flavorful. The crab rangoon was like a flaky triangle filled with cream cheese and crab flavors, and it was pretty balanced. The pot sticker was meaty and easy to eat. The popper had no heat or pepper taste, and the crab didn't have flavor. I don't know why this was the case. The egg roll was ok with cabbage and meat, but the crab rangoon and pot sticker overshadowed it. So I will personally get the rangoon in the future, instead of the sampler.
For the rolls, the thriller and groupie stole the show, and the experience roll was not an experience for me. The experience is a flat note. So the mango adds a touch of sweetness, but the rest of the roll was bland, and I cannot figure out why. The groupie had a savory taste that I enjoyed, and I can see myself eating this again. I am not much of a fried sushi eater, but the thriller was the best of the three, and even though I don't remember what's in it, I wanted more. I am sure I could have over-stuffed myself on the thriller.
The atmosphere of the place was groovy, with neon lights and excellent rock music videos on the screens. The vibe there was fun, a little tight on seating, but fun. Here is what takes the star away, which can easily be obtained. We were there between 5:30pm to 6:40pm and the sun beams right in like we are in a fish bowl. With the sun constantly attacking, it is hard to have a conversation, relax, and not get a headache. This place desperately needs sunshades, and hopefully, they will get them because that was a little rough.
The kids' ramen was basic. Our 2-year-old loves regular katsu ramen, and we hoped that's what this was, but it was just your regular store-purchased ramen. Good news, though: Our daughter was eating the heck out of it, so there was no loss there. Yay!
The overall bill is $65, and they are military-friendly. This place is worth a try, and Cassidy is a good server. It was a good...
Read moreHeard of this place from a foodie influencer. Finally got to check it out. It's quite a distant from us but we were on our way somewhere and decided to not go anymore and check this place out so we took the drive there. It's not as big as I thought it'd be base off the videos and photos from them. To start off, i got their jalapeno poppers for apps and my husband we thought it was pretty good. It does have a hint of spicy to it and I can handle my spice so to say that, it means it was good. I got 1 roll and my husband got 2. I got their VIP roll, my husband got one of their lobster and another one I forgot. It was a bit disappointing cause the rice used was either not cooked fully or old cause it was still kinda hard. Not sure what oil they used for deep frying but after i ate 3 poppers n 1 of my sushi, i felt sick to my stomach. not because the food was bad or the seafood was bad, it was more like because of the "deep fried" of it. Not sure how to explain that but like if you have too much fried food you get a sick feeling. Sometimes it could be cause of the oil not being filter frequently or i dont know maybe cause it was lunch time and i have not ate anything all morning. But we ended up just packing it up to go. The service was good. Friendly staff. The atmosphere was casual with old rock musics, which is my husband's kind of vibe and they have outdoor seating as well which would be nice when the weather is a lot cooler. Oh and their cups, you get to take home. It's a little souvenir from them. I think thats a great way to advertise their business, i guess. I do want to go back with my coworkers and maybe when my sister comes visit too. Will try it out again so i can try the other rolls they have and the other entrees they have. They dont only h ave sushi. they serce hibachi grill entrees and ramens. I want to get their guitar party tray so i think that'd be cool. lolz oh and one of my husband rolls has strawberry on top. from the pictures its the 2nd one with the red stuff on top. I thought from photos, it was red bell pepper or something but it wasnt. Now we have tried mangos, bananas and strawberry top sushis so far and though it sounds weird, it's actually good and it...
Read moreI would not recommend Rock N Roll Sushi at all. TLDR: Sushi is terrible and Ramen was saltier than cup ramen at home.
I went early to have an early dinner and got in right away. If you come later and they are busy, expect to wait outside because this place is small.
I ordered the Bowl and Roll combo. Tonkatsu Ramen and Spicy tuna roll. The roll came out first. The first thing you see is tube wasabi paste squirted on the plate, no finesse, just a squirt and you could see where they cut it off from the bottle. Not really an issue, just didn’t look very appetizing. Then the sushi. Starting with the tuna, it didn’t taste very fresh, from what little there was. The amount of tuna to rice is absurd. There was about as much tuna in these rolls as girthy as a #2 pencil (some were a little more like a gel pen). The rice was over seasoned and overcooked. It looked like someone took glutinous rice flour mixed with water and cooked it. I had to wait over 5 minutes for utensils/chopsticks before I gave up and went up to the bar to get some myself. No separate bowl for soy sauce (at least I didn’t get one). For 10.99 normally on their menu, I’d rather go to Safeway and eat their sushi.
The ramen. First, they were out of egg, so they offered to substitute it for more chashu pork free of charge which was nice. It came out. First thing I noticed was the slab of meat they put in the bowl. Now I know that it is a matter of preference for thick vs thin cut, but if you are going to put a 3/4” steak of chashu pork in a bowl, you better make sure the fat is nicely rendered and the meat is tender. I had to get a fork to be able to pick it up so I could rip apart in my mouth. The fat was that of chewing gum so I had to pull it apart to remove that. The noodles were clumped together so bad that I physically couldn’t separate them even with a fork. The broth was saltier than an at home ramen packet and I couldn’t finish it.
Overall, the staff were very nice, just seemed off which I will blame on it being a new restaurant. Really wouldn’t recommend going here and I will probably...
