I love trying these hole in the wall locations as great food can be found at reasonable prices. Angie's does not disappoint. The restaurant features southern style fried seafood (a little stretch here because I think they have fresh water catfish which technically doesn't come from the sea). I gave the the wings a pass today. The dining area remains closed as it has been throughout the ordeal of Covid. Orders are placed in the drive thru and are brought out to your vehicle.
Having not eaten here before I ordered a combination platter of catfish, shrimp and fried oysters with sides of green beans and red beans and rice. The thing about seafood is it has to be fresh, no amount of seasoning and batter can make bad seafood taste good. With that in mind the seafood today was fresh.
The shrimp was coated with a thick crunchy batter was quite tasty and well complemented with the provided cocktail sauce.
The oysters and catfish received a cornmeal coating, different from the treatment on the shrimp.
The oysters were delicious. Well breaded and perfectly fried with a light crunch on the outside and tender goodness on the inside with no hint of a rubbery texture associated with over cooking. They would be at home by themselves or in a Louisiana po boy sandwich.
The catfish was the star of today's meal. Nicely breaded, biting through to the fish inside was a delight. The natural sweetness of the fresh catfish was like a shining beacon in the darkness. If I had ever wondered what bursting with flavor meant, this would be it. 5 stars for the catfish, easily some of the best fried catfish I have ever had.
Red beans and rice. This side item was one of the options offered with the meal. It was good and I would not hesitate to order it again next time.
Green beans. This in my opinion was the weakest part of todays meal. It was not bad, but also not good either. It was rather pedestrian with no embellishments in it like bacon or onions or garlic. I would order a different side item next time.
Overall, eating food from Angie's was very pleasant. Enough care and attention had been shown to preparing the food that it paid dividends in taste. I would recommend this place and put it up against any other restaurant serving fried...
Read moreShort answer is great food at a great price! Now for the details. While very unassuming from the outside and a bit beat up on the inside, the Place is clean, the food is really good, and the portions are large. when I first arrived there was a menu on each table of Mediterranean/middle east cuisine and I thought I had gone to the wrong place. The family who run it are from that area and also offer this cuisine and it smells amazing. We were hunting for fish and gizzards though and we were not disappointed! The fish was fresh, perfectly breaded in corn bread and had perfect texture and flavor. The gizzards were top notch. most places brine their gizzards to tenderize the meat which makes them salty. I am not sure how they do theirs, but for just a touch more chewiness the flavor was amazing. The breading was flour based, and fluffy. The red beans and rice was really good also especially with a dash of Louisiana brand hot sauce on each table, just wish there was more. The fries were hot and fresh also which is the closest thing I could come to a complaint. THE FOOD WAS HOT! It took a while for it to cool, all was made fresh to order and we had to sit there and blow and wait while smelling amazing. It was torture. This was at a great price too. 6 fish fillets, and about three pounds of gizzards each with two sides with water was $30 with tip fed two adults and two kids I am a heavy eater and we brought home two fillets and some gizzards. Definitely will go back when...
Read moreThis restaurant is the former Angies Fish and Wings Restaurant. They continued with the former restaurants menu of burgers, salads, sandwiches, fried gizzards, liver, etc. The service was friendly upon arrival so I thought that I was in for a similar treat. Unfortunately I got excited too soon because immediately after giving the clerk my card he gave it back to me saying the payment won't go through and asked for a different card. I took my card back and immediately brought up my prepaid card website to see what the issue was. Shocked I saw where there was debit that took every penny out of my account in the form of a purchase! Side note: The amount removed was over $100! I showed the clerk my phone and he immediately opened the register and handed me the amount that was deducted saying the card processor is broken. I wondered how many other people had this been done to? Upon opening my container at home I was instantly disappointed! I always order the whole catfish and it was mutilated. The fish had holes poked in it all over after it was cooked. It was overcooked, water logged and underseasoned as the result of cooking frozen fish! Eating at this establishment...
