Lo Banh Mi Viet Hot Bread — Restaurant in Tulsa

Date of visit 11/1/22 Well, I am going to have to vacuum out the car. What a mess. Ordering was a bit of a challenge. No English spoken here. After reading reviews from Vietnamese folks that had eaten here, claiming that this is the most delicious and authentic Bahn Mi in Oklahoma, my wife was convinced that the #1 sandwich was the top choice and the way to go. A number 1 Dac Biet, it shall be. It was instantly apparent that my Oklahoma version of the English language was not going to get me any food here. I held up one finger, then pointed to my wife and held up one finger again and pointed at myself. Next the drinks. After useless words back and forth between me and the very nice lady trying to understand me, the apparent solution was to just grab a couple of drinks from the cooler. I handed her my credit card she handed me my receipt with a charge for two drinks, and for only one sandwich. So, we did the dance again to get the second sandwich. Vietnamese food is not my favorite of the Asian cuisines. There are a few dishes I like. Overall, I rate it as just OK. Let’s start there with a base line of OK or 3 stars. Now this was absolutely the best sandwich I had today! Add a star for that and we are at 4 stars. I have only eaten one other Bahn Mi in my life, that was at Lone Wolf in downtown Tulsa. I really didn’t care for it. This was a much, much better sandwich. It would be very honest for me to say that this was the very best Bahn Mi I have ever had! Add a star. 5 stars! Ok all the BS aside. This is a small shop; take out only. We ate in the car. Communicating is a slight barrier if you are not fluent in the Vietnamese language, but you can work through it. If you are not into the bubble tea stuff, drinks are limited to bottled water and a small variety of sodas in the cooler. The sandwiches, are big fresh tasty sandwiches on fresh crusty French bread. An I do mean crusty; the proof is all over the seat and floor in my car. They are a hell of a great buy. I can’t over emphasize, big, fresh, tasty sandwiches, loaded with meat and fresh vegetables, stuffed in crusty, fresh French bread for $5.85! That’s what makes Viet Hot Bread special. Vietnamese food is still not my favorite, but this was a very good sandwich! My first time there, shop caught my eye as i was going Souel Bistro restaurant. I thought Viet Hot Bread was a restaurant, but its built more for take outs. Got a bahn mi, call xui mai. Its has meatball albondigo, cucumber, carrots, celentros, on a french bagget. It was $6.45, plus tax.Its like a 6inch sub. Great price. I only got 1 sandwich to go. I used to love this place, it was delicious and fulfilling and at a great price, however there has been changes that I've noticed that no longer puts this place on my favortie go-to food stops. There were times when I ordered and they would leave out the veggies in a side bag when I never ask them to separate it. I've noticed there was changes to how much meat and veggies they add into the sandwiches now too. Its alot less than a before. It used to be a good portion of meat but recently I've only received like 2 slices and a couple stems of cilantro, while also there being a huge clump of butter just sitting in the middle of my sandwich. Its very disappointing to see my favorite sandwich shop dropping in quality.
