We are new to Tunkhannock and we have slowly been making our way around town trying out the local restaurants and cafes and today we finally made our way to Twigs for lunch. From what I have heard from other people and have seen from the reviews, we went in with high hopes! However, we were met with a very different experience... It took our waitress at least 10 minutes to come over and introduce herself and to get our drink orders and from what we could see there were only three to four other tables seated at that time. It also took us a long time to get our food as well and they were not busy. I got their Twigsted Tea, it was good. It had a nice raspberry tea flavor to it. I also got the prime rib cheese steak and honestly it was only okay. The flavor was very bland, nothing really stood out about it. My partner got the chicken parm dinner and the sauce was very acidic and honestly could use some sugar to sweeten it up a bit....but same thing, it was very bland and basic. I feel like Twigs is trying to pass off cheap diner food as expensive small town cafe. Personally for us the atmosphere was a little too dark (the lighting, literally it was dark in there!) We were seated in the window seat section and I do have to say it was nice to people watch and watch the town as we ate.
However, shortly after we left my stomach started not feeling too well and neither did my partners. We have both been in and out of the bathroom with diarrhea since we had lunch at Twigs. We will not be coming back because the atmosphere is just not our type of restaurant which is fine, to each their own but mainly because their food has made both of us severely ill. I cannot even eat dinner at my house because my stomach is still so...
Read moreThe only place worth eating at in Wyoming County. I am quite surprised at the bad reviews here, and I notice that they seem to be primarily from people who decline to identify themselves. Possibly the competition's employees??? I am from a large city with many more choices than what Tunkhannock and Wyoming County have. I lived for several years near Tunkhannock and very much missed a decent place to have lunch until Twigs opened. I have since moved back home, but whenever I am in the Tunkhannock area, Twigs is always on my agenda. I have always found the food quite good and very inexpensive, though more vegetarian choices might be nice. I have never found the service to be rude, or "stuck up" as one reviewer complained. The people there are always nice, accommodating, and sometimes witty. The decor, as if that really matters that much, is nice and quaint, and well thought out. Though a bit shy by big city standards, by Tunkhannock standards it might be called somewhat eclectic. All-in-all, Twigs is a fine restaurant, and an asset to the area. I would suggest to the reviewers who said that McDonald's might be better, to then go to McDonald's, as they probably are too used to that type of garbage to appreciate a nice little place like Twigs. And to those who suggest Seasons restaurant: yes, that's a great place if one wants a plain, parochial "joint" with all the standard small-town fare, but a person with working taste buds would probably find Twigs much...
Read morePopped in here today around 2:30 to have lunch. They normally have a fantastic french onion soup. Well, today we were very disappointed and I'm sorry to say the food was awful. I'm only writing this because I want this lovely restaurant to do better. We love this restaurant. It is the heart and soul of Tunkhannock . There was nobody in the restaurant when we got there except for one person. WE eagerly-awaited our onion soup. The first indication that something was not right was all the oil dripping off the side of the bowl on to the saucer. I decided to put that aside thinking surely it's going to be as good as it normally was but it was not in fact it was downright watery oily and tasteless. I always thought that their onion soup was their signature piece. The cheese was not good and there were a few croutons in the bowl. However, we both decided to try their steak. We waited nearly an hour and when it arrived out it was cold and undercooked I asked for medium well. It came with a mushroom onion and shallot topping which was absolutely dreadful. When I asked for malt vinegar for my French fries they didn't have any... very disappointed since we drove out from Clarks Summit just to enjoy their food. We both walked away thinking that maybe since it was in the afternoon they didn't have their good chef on and maybe somebody was filling in. The waitress...
