i went here not too long ago, was my second time
my partner and i got really bad food poisoning, highly likely from this place
the first time i got take out, and it was phenomenal. like vincent's, it felt like a sister to mineos (lots of cheese!), but maybe a little more down to earth version. truly loved it, just my style
went a second time, ate in. ordered a pie which came out just too early, wasn't fully cooked. what made it worse, it was watery all underneath, kinda soaked the crust. made a terrible decision and still ate it, but should have said something
24hrs later we were both ridiculously sick, lasted a week, and both of us ended up going to the doctor.
it's too bad, really liked this place
*Original response from owner, for record "Sorry…you did not get food poisoning from an undercooked pizza. It is cooked in a 550 degree oven. Shame on you for blaming us for something that is not true. Your Dr should have told you the same."
*edit, a note to ownership
you are a well established and respected restaurant and im sure take many precautions to create healthy food for your customers.
however, if someone states that food poisoning likely happened in your restaurant, its something i recommend that you take very seriously. defensive reactions are unprofessional - and instead state more the attitude from the restaurant on avoiding digging into these sorts of issues
i’d recommend a response that’s more concerned and curious. what toppings did you get? did you order anything else? what date did you come? do you remember who your server was? did anyone else get sick that you know of? (yes, two people got sick 24hrs after consuming it). you didn’t ask us any of these questions
key note - you can def get sick from an undercooked (or even a cooked) pizza. it can happen from undercooked toppings, contaminated veggies that are not washed properly, cheese stored at the wrong temperature, cross contamination from other ingredients or surfaces, improper storage of prepared components, among...
Read moreSo my better half wanted to treat me out. But when she said pizza...I have to say my enthusiasm left the room. Then she brings me to this establishment. It looked ok... but I know looks can be deceiving. I was not in the mood for pizza so I ordered a steak salad. The lady ordered a pizza. Now for those of you that follow my reviews. You know I just had a somewhat bad experience at LongHorns Steakhouse. Well who ever was cooking the steak at Shelly Pie should go to LongHorns and teach them how to make a proper medium steak. The steak on my salad looked beautiful. And the taste even better. The steak melted in my mouth...and I almost cried. And the cheese...Now I'm not big on mozzarella... but my love for pizza makes me tolerate it. Well wherever or from whoever Shelly gets the cheese from... they are heaven sent. I could of ate the cheese straight from a bowl by itself. It was creamy and light. It also melted in my mouth. It wasn't chewy at all like cheeses I'm so use to. This salad made its way easily to my top 2 steak salads ever. Then I decide to go for a piece of the pie. First glance... toppings everywhere! They do not skimp here. Then you take a piece... and the juices from the pie...I hope you have a bib. You can tell alot of love went into making this. The crust holds its own in this masterpiece the sauce compliments the toppings whatever you choose. And back to the heavenly cheese. Yes... the cheese. I hate cheese pizza... my opinion.. it's a waste of time and money. But a cheese pizza from Shelly Pie. I would pay for that...correction...I would pay for three of those. It was that good. If you are on a diet... not sure this is the place for you. With their over the top toppings and abundance of servings this place would blow your calorie count. But for those of us that live in the moment and seize the day.... I'll see you soon...
Read moreStopped by here driving through town and was very glad I did. The atmosphere is very friendly and overall has a warm vibe. I sat at a table by the bar and was greeted quickly by a knowledgeable server that reviewed the menu and highlighted some of the local specials. Huge menu by the way see the pictures. I stuck with the basics in order a large pizza with pepperoni and sausage - it was outstanding 4.8 out of 5. May not be the type of pizza everyone likes, but I loved it. The pizza was huge. The picture does not do it justice. But more than the size..,the taste for me was what won me over. A great complementary combination of pizza crust, sauce, healthy amount of great cheese, and a small truckload of high-quality meats (not the stuff you get at chains - this is good stuff!). It was a killer meal, appetizer, main course, and dessert all in one. 100% Satisfying. Some other reviewers commented on the Pizza being greasy and doughy and a little messy. And they may be correct, but for me it was a slice of heaven and I really enjoyed. The pizza was the perfect amount of chewy and crispy it was doughy but definitely not too doughy. Yes it was somewhat greasy but with a huge quantity of meat, which I found outstanding, what do you expect? And yes, when the pizza was piping hot, I used a fork a bit to help out, but it was well worth it. If I had a critique, maybe they could cut the pizza on a piece of cardboard or a wooden cutting board to let some of the grease find its way away from center pie. But this is a minor nit picky thing. I thoroughly enjoyed the food that was served. And the next time I pass through Turtle Crik I will definitely be back. - can’t wait to give some other items on the menu or try. Kudos, nice place to go and experience, friendly fast service, and great food. They deserve and...
