ive been a loyal pay pig for this casino for many years now (going on 12 this december) and have had many highs and many lows. its been a well fought battle, but i belive ive lost the war. i was about ready to hang up my jacket, throw in the towel, give up the fight. got off my shift at the water processing factory and came home to my dog wife, and realized i needed a change of scenery. if i was gonna look at a wildebeast after a shift like that, i wanted it to be buffalo gold. all the seats were taken. i saw men that were younger, buffer, and most wealthy than me getting paid hand over fist by that wicked machine. not a single seat for yours truly. i figured id had enough. it was time for something new. this old dog was gonna learn new tricks. i was strolling around, looking for something to uplift my mood. then i saw it. a new game, a game of thrones game (see what i did there) there was a busty redheaded medieval woman on the bright screen. i felt like a spider in a web, a fly in locked bathroom with nothing but the flourscent flickering of a dying light bulb to keep me sweet company. she was incredibly perky. i found myself infront of an empty two seater booth. i set my walker aside, turned the volume to max and took it in, and it had an air of grunge to it. dollar spins was bold, yet for the experience i received, i cannot name a price. a dollar seemed to be day light robbery in the face of my sensational session. i threw in 34 dollars, figured why not see where it gets me. it got me to the gates of heaven, though they may be forever out of reach for this old stallion. as i pressed the spin button, a force rippled through me. unfamiliar, yet not unwelcome. hesitantly, i pressed the button again. again, i tingled. again. again. again. the seat was vibrating, not just under me, but through me. i felt my core tensing, my toes curled over the lip of my patigona orthopedic sandals. it was comparable to any bonus i’ve hit at the machine, yet this soared far beyond any monetary value. i used all of the 34$, and then the rest of the cash on me. Black bear casino, you have truly made an unforgettable experience. it was incredibly immersive, and immeasurably pleasurable. to the custodial staff, i am extensively apologetic. i will return thursday, 6pm, fellow reviewers or black bear casino goers, keep my seat warm for me until then. thank you. 5 stars from this old...
Read moreMy boyfriend, best friend and I were quite excited to go on a getaway trip to Duluth for the weekend. I looked online and I was able to reserve my room and put in my credit card details. There was no trouble with that. I did not find anywhere on this website where it stated it was required to be 21 or older to check in. I am 18 years old, so because I did not see a warning of needing to be 21, I was sure that we were going to be good to go. We arrived at the hotel earlier today (10.16.2020) at around 4:15-4:30. We walked up to the desk to check-in and I stood there waiting to be called on to be helped. There were 3 ladies there and none of them called me over to them. I had to ask myself if I could be helped and I was greeted with immediate attitude. Every time I asked a question the lady who helped me gave me attitude. When I gave her my ID, she said that someone needed to be 21 years of age in order for us to check in. I told her I never saw that on the website, and she stated it was on the front page of their website with more attitude. I looked on the website and it did not specify an age requirement. She said we had to go and could not check us in with, again, such a bad attitude. I had to look up the age requirement for the black bear hotel after the fact and it took me to a page where it stated the 21 age requirement. But the thing with that is I had to look it up separately. It was not specified on the main page as the lady at the front desk said. I am not necessarily upset by the fact we were not able to check in, I am upset by the constant rudeness to my questions and the lack of information on the website. There needs to be something on the booking page online that you put in your birthdate so that it can be verified whether or not you are old enough to book a room. It was a very bad experience even if we never got to see the room. The service was horrible. I left feeling very upset by the treatment given. The women at the front desk were very unkind. I know now that the service here is undesirable and me, my boyfriend, and best friend will not be coming back. Service and kindness are very important, and the Black Bear Resort...
Read moreDo yourself a favor and stay away from this place--that is, unless you're here for a concert or on a weekend. I've never written a review while staying at a place but I've never been this disappointed in a "casino resort". First, let's start with the hotel. Check-in was quick and easy. The person who checked me in was asking me if I belonged to AAA, a tribe, etc. just so they could get me a cheaper room rate. I think this is a good indication that even the front desk staff think the rooms are overpriced, especially early in the week when the hotel offers no services (no valet, no restaurants, shall I go on?). While the room is clean, it is outdated, sparsely furnished, and needs a serious renovation/update. Also, the computer screen in my office is bigger than the television screen in the room. And no safe? What kind of casino hotel has no safe in the room?
As for the casino itself, I can confirm previous reviews that say the slot machines are incredibly tight. I spent over $500 in less than 30 minutes and didn't get one bonus round or free spins on a slot machine. The only time that you got free spins or the bonus round is when you were betting the minimum. Just don't expect to win a jackpot or even your money back if you come here. Expect to donate your money instead.
I'm also dumbfounded that the hotel/casino can't offer more than a deli to its guests on a Tuesday evening. And by the way, the deli only offers soup, cold sandwiches, and lukewarm pizzas. There are no sit-down restaurants (i.e., steakhouse or buffet) from Monday - Wednesday evenings. For some reason the steakhouse is only open until 3:00 p.m. Fail!
I will give credit to the casino for offering $5 glasses of wine however. I've definitely paid more at other casinos I've been to.
This is the second tribally-owned casino I've been in in Minnesota that has disappointed me. It's definitely struggling and needs to look at its management to determine what it is doing wrong. I'll definitely give this casino & "resort" a hard pass next time I'm traveling...
