Bear’s Beans & Bagels — Restaurant in Umatilla

Kind of mixed feelings about this place. I opted to list my gluten free bagel as toasted (because it requires you to pick one when you do an online order), and 3 times in a row ordering that did I receive charred/rock hard bagels. So I opted to start notating to please just warm it up versus toasting it. I just didn’t want to receive a cold bagel.

My most recent drop by, I’m assuming to may have been a manager, possibly, but I genuinely don’t know, was a bit stand-offish and rude about me politely listing my request in the notes for the bagel, just so I didn’t receive a charred/burnt bagel as I had in the past. She informed me of their processes and how my bagel doesn’t actual get toasted, and it’s impossible for the gluten free bagels to be toasted because that’s just not how they do things. When I had informed her that I had received bad bagels up until I started making the notes, she once again, in a kind of rude manner, re-iterated that’s not how they were trained and that it’s the type of bagel (which doesn’t explain how the new ones are suddenly better).

I’ve always tipped and been super friendly whenever I’ve placed online orders and just pick up. Interactions are super minimal, etc.

I wasn’t aware that me making a tiny note was bothering the staff or manager to the degree that I had to be trained in their process of making bagels. It’s one thing to be informative, but I remember leaving with raised eyebrows trying to understand what I did wrong besides being a paying, polite customer who swoops in to pick up her order and leaves.

This was the first time I ever had a small interaction that left a bad taste in my mouth with this bagel shop. Until now everything had been fine, and I don’t believe that I had to be told off about leaving a tiny note about the bagel. Or at least, it could have been handled nicer? I’m not sure. Just super weird vibes.

Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be going here again. It’s just too awkward and uncomfortable now. Don’t feel like customers should be put in that position. Sucks, but...

My husband said this was the best bagel he ever had. Mine was dang good also. He got the jalapeno cheddar with cream cheese. I got the everything bagel with cream cheese. If you like soft bagels with a slightly crusty exterior, this is your place. Anyone with dentures, go right ahead lol! But seriously, the flavor was there and the texture was divine.

There are a lot of coffee choices, refreshing drinks and some other unusual things, Plus the drinks are made fresh in front of you.

The service was very quick. Some small coffee shops have only one person working the register and the food prep, but this place had at least two people that I saw and it was very efficient.

There are lovely little tables, some backless seats at the bars and some very comfy cushy chairs by the front window. Their decor is fun and it's bright and cheerful inside.

It wouldn't be a balanced review if I didn't make some critiques . I'd suggest some nice music, and I would have loved fresh eggs instead of those frozen ones. I was glad I asked what type of eggs go on the bagels before I ordered. But hey, at least they offer eggs and meat on the sandwiches. Otherwise, I think this is 10 out of 10.

I love this spot it’s a mile away from my place and it’s super yummy &convenient but my last 4 togo orders were messed up and I’m in the service industry and this is my first bad review EVER and it’s because by the time I get back home or to work and notice my whole order is messed no egg and cheese no extra toasted and my cream cheese was cold :( I was very upset,I call ahead so I don’t have to wait and walk back in and have it remade. I always ask for it extra crispy and I guess they have something against crispy because I never get it extra toasted I always have to come home and throw it in the airfryer . Buttttt I will say the bagels are amazing the coffee is amazing but they need more training I’m tired of having to get my orders remade every time I come in . The red head girl that was working today was very kind and sweet and acknowledged me and fixed my order while the other 2 girls just sat there and looked at me not even asking if I needed help or if there was anything they could do for me I felt unseen when I...
