UPDATE as of 4/1/22 I feel that, after a year of less frequent visits to Marcella's, it's time to just write them off altogether and find my doughnut fix elsewhere. While the customer service is always exceptional and friendly, I can't justify paying $2 for a doughnut that is clearly not freshly made. By 7am, I would not expect my (cake) doughnut - while adorably decorated for Easter/Spring - to taste like a dry, day-old doughnut. Sadly (because this was my favorite Eastside doughnut shop), this has become a frequent occurrence, rather than an isolated one. While granted, I've visited Marcella's (both the Clough Pike and the Eastgate locations) less than a few times this past year, every visit has yielded a less than fresh tasting doughnut. There really is no excuse for a stale tasting doughnut at 7am. and certainly not for the price. Should I need a doughnut fix in the future, I will go back to Servatii's where I don't think I've ever had anything that's not freshly made.
This morning I was reminded of why I stopped going to this place. While I'll admit the doughnuts are amazing (better than Dunkin Donuts & Krispy Kreme but that isn't really card to do), when you are more often than not sold out by 9:30am on a Saturday morning (again a testament to how good the doughnuts are), you have a problem with inventory control. Saying that you were sold out by 6:30am (they open at 6am on Saturdays 5:30 am Tues-Friday & 7am on Sundays) only confirms the problem. By now, this location has been open long enough to analyze the inventory trends. Yes, there's another location in Amelia. No, I don't want to drive out there. Perhaps, Marcella's should consider delivering some of their inventory from Amelia & Milford locations when they see they're in danger of being sold out 3 hours before the store closes. Again, the staff is very friendly, the doughnuts are amazing. However, it's just not worth the trip on the off chance they have some doughnuts left by 9am. Also, not a huge deal, but if you only plan to buy 1 doughnut & maybe a coffee, make sure you have cash as they don't accept debit cards for...
Read moreI'm going back and forth between giving 3 or 4 stars. Chose 4 but ultimately went with three because every time I come to the Mount Carmel location they are closed. Today which is memorial Day weekend, a very busy weekend, you would think that they would make enough donuts to last until closing time. Closing time is only 12:00 p.m.. but it said on the sign it said ..sorry we are out of donuts, go to one of our other locations. What if somebody drives to another location and they're out of donuts too? Perhaps maybe direct people to call first or something else...
It's a very popular place and for good reason They have great donuts. Just stinks you can't just pull up and get some during normal hours. My mom and I go to another store right by it and want to grab donuts from time to time but can't. Also, the sign did say you can make an order online for the next day which is great but like other places. Imagine how much more money they could make if ppl...
Read moreHusband and I are on a road trip from Detroit to San Diego with a mini vacation in Alabama on the way and I am doughnut obsessed. This was our first stop and we were not disappointed. First, the woman working was the SWEETEST - so kind and gentle and the type of woman I'd like to be one day. We were getting 4 doughnuts and she let us know we could save if we got 6 but I told her I'll be eating doughnuts almost every day so I'm trying to limit my intake 😂 husband got glazed and cookies and cream. I got vanilla sprinkles and maple bacon. Haven't eaten my vanilla yet but my maple bacon was delightful! 2 thick pieces of bacon on top, the maple wasn't overly sweet and the yeast donut was chewy but fluffy at the same time - so yum! Highly recommend if you're in town! They had some unique...
