9/30/2020 TRUE STORY: WE GOT OUR ANNIVERSARY MEALS FOR FREE BECAUSE OF A DRUNK MAN: For our anniversary dinner we went to Caporella’s Italian Ristorante. We both got french onion soup. It was delicious. For our main courses Mark ordered a cajun seafood pasta that is topped with a whole soft shelled crab(de shelled) that was breaded. Never seen that done before. I was impressed! I got a black angus prime rib with bourbon mushrooms and mashed potatoes. We had bread with seasoned dipping oil as well. I had water and Mark had Pepsi.
*The pics of the french onion soup, oil, bread and inside of restaurant are not mine. I took them from the internet. I didn’t take any pics of the inside because there were too many people around. I DID take the pics of our main dishes and Caporella’s sign outside on the building.
Caporella’s is inside an old train station. So cool!
🗣STORY TIME! Our waitress was named Angie. She was super nice and I think she was running the bar as well as taking orders and delivering food (I hope she is paid well). The couple at the table next to us looked to be in their early 60’s. The husband was talking to another couple by the wall with the fake windows. See pics below. He admitted out loud to them that he had had too many drinks. We all could tell. He’s the kind of guy that gets lovey dovey when they drink. He’s a regular there and knew Angie.
I tend to get emotional on our wedding anniversaries and this 20th anniversary was no exception. Mark and I were already eating our main meals and getting stuffed when drunk man (sorry,I don’t know his name) and his wife were ready to leave. He stood up and wanted to hug Angie goodbye. She’s pretty short and he not only hugged her but proceeded to pick her up as he’s doing that. He lifted her up pretty high and then his drunk butt lost his balance as a lot of drunk people do and they both FELL onto our table, spilling Mark’s Pepsi everywhere including my clothes. I had managed to quickly push myself away from our table in time to not get soaked but I did wear some Pepsi on my clothes. I almost started bawlin’ my eyes out because I felt that he ruined our 20th anniversary dinner but I suppressed my tears and heard ‘Free meals’ in my head.
I’m surprised our food was saved. Angie and the drunk guy immediately apologized over and over. We assured them we were fine. Angie immediately started to clean up as she apologized. 👏It 👏was 👏not 👏her 👏fault. I helped clean up the floor on my side of the table where the pop spilled over after asking a red headed waiter (I think he was a waiter or bus boy? Not sure) for the rag he had in his hand. Everything got situated again, the drunk man ended up paying for our food WITH a huge tip for Angie because of his actions. Mark also left Angie a tip. We stayed just a little bit longer and then left. All was fine and the food was the best!!!!!!!! By the way, we are not mad at anyone involved! Just telling’ what happened because it’s a story well never forget.😊
We got back to the Summit Inn where we were staying and I asked the staff if we could go in the big banquet room (looks like a big ballroom to me, at least that’s what I called it) so we could turn some songs on and dance in there because it was our wedding anniversary. They happily obliged by turning the lights on and then low. Pics below. We played some of our wedding songs and I definitely bawled my eyes out while dancing but that’s another story. I’ll end this story by saying the dancing at the end of the night was truly a beautiful moment and I’m just glad we made it this far in our marriage.
ALSO, we will TOTALLY go back to Caporella’s again if we get the opportunity. That incident is not gonna stop us from eating that AMAZING food!! You guys,it was 👏SO👏GOOD!! 👏GO👏THERE!!!...
Read moreSo, I came here only because I had a gift card. I also have a dairy allergy. You may wonder why I ate at an Italian restaurant given this information. I was wary. But I'm not so extremely sensitive that cross contamination is a big risk, and I called ahead of time and asked if they could accommodate my allergy and the person on the phone said yes. There was gluten free stuff on the menu which gave me hope they'd be conscientious. When we got there, our table's waiter insisted to me that they could make ravioli for me that was dairy free. She insisted they read the label on the box of ravioli and that it did not contain milk or cheese. I was super excited because I used to love ravioli and haven't had it in so long since I developed my dairy allergy. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful for an atmospheric family meal vibe. Great, right? No. The plate came and I took a bite and could tell immediately that something was off. I asked her to check again and, surprise, the ravioli actually does have cheese. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. So. They apologized a bunch and took the plate and I ordered the steak and baked potato instead. I explained again that I would need margarine for the potato, not butter, and the waiter insisted they could do that. At that point I had no appetite because of, you know, being food poisoned and just sat outside the restaurant for about 30 minutes with my EpiPen in hand in case I had to use it. Thankfully I did not. Extremely stressful experience though. I went back inside when the rest of my party told me my plate was ready. I sat down in my chair and looked at the food. The baked potato came with real dairy butter. Because the kitchen didn't have margarine. At this point all I could do was laugh. You feed me my allergen, you apologize for doing that, and then after all that hubbub you do the exact same thing a second time. Why not just explain that there was no margarine and bring the potato with no topping? I could tell the staff did not understand at all the severity of allergies. It's not a personal diet preference and it's not a cute little "oh I'm lactose intolerant but I love cheese too much to give it up even though I'll have a little tummy ache later." In the past my throat has closed up from milk. And even if it was less serious... listening to the customer's needs and communicating with them is basic service. I was not cruel and did not raise my voice but was firm in my attempt to explain to the server how dangerous food allergies are, and I did not exaggerate when I said that not being careful about allergens could kill someone. The server walked away midsentence. So basically, I felt like the restaurant did not care about customer safety at all. If you have any sort of dietary restriction you should never eat here. I feel like I should have just not tried to eat here in the first place given the fact most Italian food has dairy, but the moment they assured me a meal was allergy friendly, it was out of my hands and the blame for the bad experience was solely on them. If they had been on the ball from the beginning and told me the food wouldn't be a good fit for me, I would simply have thanked them for their time and went about my day without writing this review and without spending a couple hours that evening in digestive distress because of the allergy poisoning. I take great care to keep myself safe with my diet and sometimes wish that I had a button to transfer the very uncomfortable symptoms of food poisoning to the people whose neglect caused me to have them. But alas! Also, other people at my table really liked...
Read moreI want to start by saying I absolutely love the food here, and I drive over an hour to eat here. Normally, I have no problems, but I recently took my sister here for lunch, and the old waitress we have was absolutely horrific. She didn't introduce herself, so I don't have a name. She dropped our drinks off to us as she was passing by, and we didn't see her for another 15 minutes. We were her only table at the time, and the restaurant was not busy. When she came back she said "what do you want?" In a super short and unfriendly tone. We placed our order and asked for refills. After she dropped off our food, we didn't see her again until I stopped her in passing to ask for the bill and boxes. She didn't ask if we needed anything ,if the food was right or if the food was good. Just standard things a good server would ask. She came up to our table and said nothing and was hovering around looking for the money. I handed it to her, and she snatched it out of my hand and said nothing. Didn't ask if we wanted change or anything. She then sat directly behind our table and played on her phone and ate. We waited about 10 minutes before I said, " I'm sorry to interrupt you lunch. May I please have my change so we can leave?"
She replied super loud" Oh, you gave me all ones." I did not. I have her 5 $20's, 2 $5 's, and 3 $1's. She comes back to my table with the money fanned out in her hands, shaking it. " I'm confused. You overpaid me." (I'm assuming she felt entitled to my money) I replied, " You must be confused, and I understand why. This was originally supposed to be your tip, but your attitude is horrible, and the service was terrible . So I'm deducting it from your 25% tip" She then laughed obnoxiously loud and proceeded to grab a $20 bill and throw it towards my face. In shock, I kinda sat there for a minute. This old woman felt so entitled to my money after providing the worst service I've ever had.
I then walked up to another waitress on the floor and asked for change so I could tip my waitress accordingly. I felt bad because she was actually busy taking care of her tables. She was super sweet and provided me with the change that my server could not. Shout out to the young blonde lady, you did your job perfectly, keep being amazing.
I spoke with the manager and explained the situation. I'm a business owner and have been in my industry for over 9 years. Customer service is one of the main focuses of my job. So, to be treated the way my waitress treated me was unreal and completely inappropriate. The manager listened well and apologized for the old lady who didn't know how to behave like a normal decent person. I asked the manager to give my server a %10 % tip and explain why it's only 10%. And I hope she has a better day. I just want to add that this is the first time I've had bad service here, and the food was...
