After a day of expertly avoiding anything resembling productivity, I strolled back to my snug little abode without a single worry on my mind. Little did I know, fate had something else in store for me - or maybe it was just my gas tank begging for mercy. Regardless, as I veered off the highway to refuel, I found myself on the legendary Olive Street in U City, a foodie paradise I hadn't visited in ages.
Among the familiar sights and smells, it suddenly dawned on me - Soup Dumplings STL, a place I'd frequented in the past but never truly savored. Snagging a rare parking spot, I found myself at the cash register perusing an expanded menu since my last visit. Without hesitation, I opted for all my classic favorites – beef, chicken, pork, and the delectable crab and pork dumplings.
As I settled at a cozy table with my chosen indulgences, I found my mind drifting away as I gazed out the window. Before I knew it, the steaming baskets of dumplings appeared before me, each bite a symphony of flavor. The pork and crab combo stole the show, but every morsel was a delight.
After polishing off more dumplings than I care to admit, I sauntered back to my car, content and carefree on my journey home. Fate may have interrupted my lazy day, but with a belly full of soup dumplings, who...
Read moreThis is our first time visiting since the corona crisis. I called ahead and placed my order. They are allowing access only to Private kitchen right now which is right next-door. I got to watch my food being prepared into the open kitchen, which reassured me that good food handling techniques were being practiced, or not handling food as the case may be because she only handles are dumplings with either gloves to fold them or chopsticks to remove them from the steamer and to place them in the steamer. She sent me off with sauce and the dumplings were in the Styrofoam containers. When I got home I heated them up for about 1 to 1 1/2 minutes in a steamer. Well not piping hot like they are when you eat them dining in, they were safe this way to just pop in your mouth, since I didn’t have the lovely deep spoons at home! It was great to be able to support this lovely small business! I think the best thing that comes out of supporting restaurants and other businesses like this is that the food taste like something that is in all too short supply right now and that is normal! #TastesLikeNormal! Not a real # as yet But would certainly like to see a Twitter group that puts out information about restaurants staying open and doing things right during...
Read moreI tried Soup Dumplings STL with my mom and sisters the other day while out Christmas shopping. I was a little worried they wouldn't be open as no one answered the phone, but they were open and busy when we arrived. Being busy during a Monday lunch definitely seemed like a good sign. The woman behind the counter was friendly and handled the stream of customers well, keeping up with taking orders, running food out to tables, and cleaning the tables so they'd be ready for the next customer. We ordered two orders of the pork dumplings, one of the chicken, and one of the beef. All three were delicious, and I think we all agreed that the pork dumplings were the best of what we tried. We were also served a chicken broth as an appetizer, and it was tasty as well, definitely hitting the spot on a cold day. When I'd tried xiaolongbao in NYC's Chinatown, they were smaller and we were told that you're supposed to eat the whole thing in one bite. The dumplings here were bigger, and the instructions on the wall said to take a bite over your spoon, let the broth fall out, eat the dumpling, and drink the broth from the spoon. Both methods are enjoyable, and I'm glad the instructions were there so I didn't try to fit one of these big dumplings in my...
