My family went to Something Different over the July 4th weekend. It was quite busy. There was a band playing and a lot of people at the bar. The hostess told us it would be a 30 to 45 minute wait. It was 7:15 pm so we decided to stay thinking we would have a table by 8 pm. Come 8 pm we were told it would be another 15 minutes and we kept hearing it would be another 15 minutes until we were finally seated at 9 pm. So we waited a freaking hour and 45 minutes to get a freaking table. Unbelievable! Once seated the music was so loud that we could not talk to anyone at our table of 8 other than to the person next to you. When the waitress came to take our order all of us had to shout our order to be heard. What I don't understand is why have a band? It only promotes guests to eat dinner and camp out at their table to listen to the band and only slows turning tables to people like us who waited forever for a table. The owners need to decide whether they are running a restaurant or a bar. We will never go back when there is a band playing! It was an awful experience!!! It was the worst night out that I can remember at any restaurant in my 50+ years. Something Different was Something...

When my daughter and I went to Something Different tonight, we had the worst experience that we’ve ever had here. There was a band playing so they were very busy. The hostess seemed a bit inefficient. She states that there would be a 20 min wait and we had to ask her about sitting in their other room, wait to be seated. She thought we were there to just have drinks so we never got placed on the waiting list to be seated. While we were waiting to be seated, a waiter came into the room we were in and bypassed us to talk to the band who was waiting to perform. They talked for 5 min before acknowledging that we were there. It’s after we told him that we were waiting to be seated that we found out there was miscommunication and we weren’t placed on the list to be seated. About 5 min later, the owner apologizes and assured us that we would be seated soon. However, we saw other people being seated before us. When we brought up this issue, the hostess said that they got there before us. Needless to say, I wouldn’t go here on the nights that they have bands playing because the establishment isn’t big enough to accommodate the amount of customers that it brings in during...

(This review was written on November 4, 2017) Stopped in during the Oyster Festival Saturday evening. Enjoyed a slice of Buttermilk Milk Pie. All I can say is I applied for early retirement for my tastebuds! The crust was flaky, not crumbly. The buttermilk filling was smooth and flavorful but not at all sweet and did not lose any of the freshness of the Pie. Same with the Pecan Pie. Normally, I cannot eat it for it is always too sweet. Too bad I had only one slice in our hotel or I would've had a Buttermilk AND a Pecan Pie!

The Buttered Pecan & Vanilla Ice cream was beyond delicious. I jumped off no-dessert wagon and shot the horses!

Not only was the food just simply delightful, the staff was so accommodating and pleasant and since this was our first visit, we were so impressed with EVERYTHING!

When traveling down Rt 17 on your way to Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk/VB, Portsmouth metropolitan areas, Something Different has to be a stop on your journey to your southern destinations!

We will be back there soon where we can try a few things...

A friend of mine recommended I try it out . Sure I’ve been to Urbanna ,the quaint waterfront town , that hosts Something Different restaurant many times shopping and taking in the visuals .. So when we arrived lunchtime there was a small wait, which the built in benches in the front help to address . We were seated fairly soon and the staff seems to know their routine and the bustling was handled swiftly. Their customers were a very diverse mix.. all busy chatting and eating. The soft shell crab sandwich was liked by a friend and they felt it was well priced n good. I had the pulled pork which was fairly priced I enjoyed it . I also sampled the onion rings .. my friend had the Southern Comfort sandwich which he felt wasn’t ample enough for a guy’s appetite. We saw others having the burgers which looked like a nice choice too. All and all we enjoyed the lively establishment.. I’ll just bet it rocks at night !! Try it

I dunno what these fried oysters are doing here. They belong in front of heads of state, UN diplomats, celebrities, people from the West Coast who claim to know what good seafood is, your extended family members who claim to not know anything about the East Coast food other than clam chowder, people who say oysters are gross and need to be taught a lesson, and literally anyone who is not allergic to oysters. They are the pride of the Rappahannock River. They are the quintessential blend of East Coast and Southern cuisine. They deserve a James Beard award. They should be casually mentioned on the next season of The Bear. Some Michelin-starred chef needs to fly in here on a helicopter and take extensive notes. The Bloody Mary was also good and worth the hype, but the fried oysters stole the show. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Maybe the best restaurant I know of. We eat there every chance we get and love it every time. The staff is friendly, the food is out of this world and the atmosphere is fun. My wife and son say they have the best coffee they've ever had. They closed for a while but are BACK! They haven't lost any of their style, atmosphere or quality. We went last night and I had the pork belly sub. It was delicious and I highly recommend it. Hurry in to welcome them back!
