BAD FOOD & BAD SERVICE! Ate here at the Town House Restaurant while visiting Uvalde this Memorial weekend, May 25, 2024 and can tell you the food was horrible! Our waitress had a very obvious attitude from the moment she took our drink order. After delivering our drinks she eventually brought out chips & salsa and asked if we were ready to order yet. Our party, which included 4 adults, an 11 year old, and an 8 month old ordered our meals. The order was 2 Derby Deluxe Plates, 1 flauta plate, 1 Mexican plate & a cheeseburger with sweet potato fries, 1 unsweet tea, 2 half & half teas, 1 regular tea & 1 lemon aide in to-go cups. I had the Derby Deluxe Plater of which the refried beans were dry & had a funky taste, the carne guisada had more potato chunks than meat and was tasteless, the ground beef in the hard taco was undercooked & pink, the cheese enchilada had a bitter tasting red sauce & very little cheese inside, and lastly, the chalupa consisted of the same funky tasting refried beans & melted oily cheese! The side salad was very small, brought out after the meals were delivered but was decent. She asked if anyone wanted a refill at which I responded yes, unsweet tea please. When she returned with said refill and I took a drink of it, it was sweet tea & not unsweet as requested so I went without a drink the rest of the time there. Food was so bad that when she asked did anyone want a to-go box, we all responded no at the same time! Our bill was $102 and some change for really substandard Tex-Mex food and crappy service. Needless to say we left no tip and found out when I called a few minutes after we left to tell the manager how bad her attitude was that she had already left which leaves me to believe that her nasty attitude was because she didn’t want to wait our table to begin with & was in a hurry to get off to go home! I will never, ever bother to go back there and neither will the other 3 adults in our group, 2 of which live...
Read moreSecond time was not the charm, apparently.. This experience refers to the second time I went to Town House, the first time we weren’t acknowledged and the hostess sat people who had arrived later ahead of us with no explanation. We should’ve taken it as a sign to never come back, but the menu looked good so we tried again. Sunday we went and were seated within just a few minutes of arriving. We were given one menu to share. The hostess didn’t smile or welcome us or even speak to us other than saying, "How many?" and “Here,” when showing us what table to sit at. We were told by our server that she should have gotten us started with drinks. He was very nice and got us coffees and took our order. We ordered the Papas Locas as an appetizer, the Townhouse Eggs and the Town House Migas. TWENTY MINUTES PASSED and our server explained they were short staffed but our appetizer would be out shortly. It was, and it was okay, too salty and the fries were not crispy. Another ten minutes and our breakfasts arrived, but they didn’t look good. My toast didn’t make it to the table, the server said he would check but no toast was ever brought for me. The eggs were undercooked (asked for over medium) and dark like they were cooked on a dirty grill top. The hashbrowns were overcooked and dry on both plates. My partner's eggs Migas looked messy and he complained they were greasy. Since this was our first time eating here we didn’t know that they don’t give you a check at your table, you have to pay at the register - at least that's what we ended up doing because, like I said, we didn't know. After our food was dropped off our server didn't come back to check on us. We went to the front counter only to wait another few minutes for service at the register. For what we got that was way overpriced. It’s diner food, not even good diner food. This place is not worth the time or money, I won’t...
Read moreI was tired of hotel breakfast, and asked the staff for a good local diner. I like trying new places when I travel. She recommended this place.
The first thing I noticed when I walked in, was a faint odor of urine. In hindsight, I regret not leaving immediately. Most of the restaurant was filled with very old people. I thought, "Hmm, maybe...it's not the restaurant?" Noticed the place was dirty, but decided to give it a go anyway; sometimes these kinds of holes in the wall are real gems.
Ordered the fast breakfast, and the Barbacoa taco.
They didn't ask how I wanted my eggs cooked, they came out scrambled. Not a fan of scrambled eggs, but whatever, I'll deal. They were tasteless, overcooked, and drenched in margarine. I could taste it with every bite. Yuck. The hash browns were perfect. Really, truly well done. I enjoyed them the most out of everything I ordered.
The barbacoa taco was...ehh...overflowing with grease, and bland. The tomatoes and onions salsa that came with it as a topping was just as tasteless.
The staff was super friendly...almost...too much so. It's the kind of friendly that's plastic. Think of the smile and laugh from Eric Foreman's mom on that 70s show, paired with a politeness that leaves you questioning its authenticity. The heavy religious overtones, both in speech of the staff, and the writings on my check left me feeling uncomfortable; I felt afraid of doing something wrong that would break the atmosphere.
I hurriedly paid my tab and left. I'm sitting here in my hotel room, wishing I had stuck to their breakfast and wondering if I should force purge the food...
