This place has such potential if their customer service were better.
We came to dine with two toddlers at 5pm tonight. We come fully prepared knowing what we want to order, with coloring books and things to keep them occupied so we don’t bother other patrons. We were very understanding and kind when they seemed short staffed and took awhile to get to our table. This is why we come early and prepared.
We ordered our appetizers and kids’ meals at the same time. When that came out, we ordered our entrees. 30 minutes went by… then an hour… and our waitress came by to ask if we needed any dessert or the check. Our entrees never came. We gently told her we were just waiting for our entrees as the toddlers were getting restless. She said she’d check in the kitchen. She came back a few minutes later and said they were on the way… another 30 minutes and we were getting impatient. If I had known that they never put our orders in and were starting them from scratch, we would’ve cancelled the orders. Instead we asked to have them to go. Big mistake.. when they finally came out after 7pm, we had already been there for two hours and needed to get out quickly before the toddlers started having a meltdown. The check came and we were charged full price for everything, including the entrees they forgot about. I work in customer service and always comp people something if we messed up on our end.. a free appetizer is a small price to pay and goes a long way in getting repeat customers. We paid the full price bill and tipped the waitress 20% but we will never be back. By the time we got home and put the kids to bed, the fries were soggy and inedible and I had lost my appetite. If they had done the right thing and made it right I’d feel differently, but unfortunately we live 3 minutes away and could’ve been frequent customers and will not be back. I completely understand that mistakes happen but you make it right. If you have toddlers you understand that every minute counts.. and waiting two hours to have mediocre high priced meals in styrofoam sent home is not an experience you...
Read moreIf you’re in the mood for Lebanese food, or thinking about trying it for the first time, do yourself a favor and stop into this place. It’s tucked in a strip mall but easy to find, with delicious food. Lebanese food is all about simplicity, fresh ingredients, and sharing it with good people, and this place has an abundance of all three. They start you with a fast assortment of pickled veggies, which is always a nice way to start a meal, and good for your tummy. The hummus was clean, light, and refreshing, with a great texture and chickpeas atop it. The olive oil poured over turns out to have been cold-pressed from the owners olive trees. You can always tell how good a Lebanese spot is from their dips alone. Hummus, baba ganouj, or labne from a solid spot, is enough to be a great meal by itself. Anyway, I’m rambling. I had the fatayer, tasty spinach pies in a light cloudy dough. My friend had the fatoush which she loved. I thought about ordering the makanek, since I don’t see it often, but it’ll have to wait til the next time.
After we finished eating we checked out the cute little market attached. This is where the night got better. We ended up chatting with William, the Lebanese (Phoenician) owner lol. And boy was he a hoot. It’s refreshing to talk to real human beings, and this dude, is a good one and funny as hell. My girl and I hadn’t laughed that hard in awhile. Conversation was fluid and we jumped topics easily and touched a lot of bases, some expected and some not, but all good. William is only in his second year of having his first restaurant, but I can tell this place is gonna be around for awhile. You guys are doing all the right things. Keep serving great food and conversation and the rest will come naturally. For everybody else reading, do yourself a favor, stop in, eat some food, share some stories, and enjoy life here for a little bit. Til...
Read moreI don’t normally do this but I cannot resist the temptation to tell everyone about Tasty Zaytoon! I discovered it on a google search for another reason and decided to take a look at the menu. Well as someone who likes different, this is different. All in a good way. Sure, they have the standards - Falafel, Hummus and Tabbouleh, but they have so many more interesting dishes as well. Many directly from the owners farm in Lebanon with ingredients directly from there too. Oh, and the owner William and his wife were wonderful hosts and took time with any guests who had questions. Years ago (25 ish), we stumbled on a new Sushi restaurant at this location called Yokohama. It became a regular place. This one will be the same. I can assure you there is NO middle eastern restaurant in the area that compares to Royal Zaytoon. And really, if you’ve tried the many Indian restaurants locally, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the change of pace here. Many similar but unique flavors and ingredients. Many vegetarian centered items too. Unfortunately we did not take pictures but there are plenty online. We shared wonderful baby eggplants stuffed w peppers and walnuts called Makdous, crispy and hot Burrak filled with 3 cheeses, Fatteh which was like chickpea and Tahini Nachos mixed with crunchy pita croutons and smokey, roasted eggplant and Lamb Kebabs with charred tomatoes, onion, and a long hot pepper and wonderfully prepared rice pilaf. We will definitely be back and this time with others in tow. If you are of Lebanese, Israeli or other middle eastern descent you know you’ll enjoy it here. If you are new to this cuisine but have a need to try something new I highly recommend you give it a try. Oh and they have a market full of specialties next door. They take reservations and do takeout. They also can cater to larger parties if they know in advance. Run, don’t...
