This being our first time at this establishment, we found the menu really short on explanation. I wanted to ask questions but our server spoke english as a second language, so no options there. I stayed with something I recognized as opposed to trying something new without an explanation in english. I recommend an explanation of the food and what country it is supposed to be from. More importantly the type of restaurant it is, Asian bistro does not say enough to me as to what to expect. Therefor an explanation is needed in the menu for us first timers.
My wife had the wonton soup and was happy with that. Her lunch chile salmon was nicely cooked, balanced and of a proper portion. The brown rice, vegetable and sauce were all very nice.
I started with the hot and sour soup, very nice. I had the mandarin beef. The vegetables, rice and sauce hit the mark as well. It felt a bit light on the beef protein portion serving. In all a good balanced spicy meal.
My wife ordered a tempura ice cream. The first bite was crunchy and ice cream was ok. The crunchy coating lasted until the second bite. It became mush after that. It still tasted ok.
We may try this place again and hope to get a better seat then the corner. I would have ordered an additional food items but communication in english being difficult I chose to eat at a english speaking local chicken place to...

I ordered take out and got him ten minutes later to eat it. The cooked sashimi and rice were fine but then I took a bite of white tuna. The strong smell should’ve given it away but the funny tasted made it all the more apparent that the fish had gone bad. Not trusting the rest of the raw fish I went to return the food. Unfortunately, they were closed for the night though. I went home and went to bed only to wake up, violently ill in the middle of the night, undoubtedly from the bad fish and it’s bacteria that contaminated the rest of the contents in the container. I went back to the store when they opened the next day explain that one of the types of sashimi in my oder was spoiled and I wanted a refund. With out me having to tell them what fish had turned they said “the white tuna” they ten proceeded to offer to make it again for me. Now still feeling incredibly ill from there food the night before I turned down the remake stating I just wanted a refund. They refused and started acting like I wasn’t there, ignoring me for ten minutes while I alternated between respectfully wait and politely asking for a refund. After that I gave up preferring to go back home and recover from the food poisoning over being ignored at the restaurant that was perfectly fine with serving...
Read moreWe have been going to Umami, since it opened & have recommended it to many, however, after this last take out experience, we will not be returning. I placed an order for 2 rolls, gyoza & an egg roll. When I went to pick up my order, along with another order, they had a pick up table set up for customers. 1 staff person was there on the phone & never looked up to acknowledge my presence, so I looked on the 'pick up' table & saw 2 bags with our names & receipts with our complete order stapled to the stapled closed bags. I took the bags & left without being seen or acknowledged. When we opened our bags, over an hour later, both orders were incomplete. We called & were yelled at, by the staff member, saying that I never waited to pick up the rest of the orders & we better get there to pick up the order. My son in law traveled 25 minutes & was told how wrong I had been, not to wait for the rest of both orders & was never offered a proper apology or any compensation for the misunderstanding. The food that was retrieved tasted like it had been sitting out for a long time & the one roll had 4 pieces instead of 6, as usual?
It seems that there is poor customer service & the food prep is getting shoddy, as the prices have been increased.
We are extremely disappointed & will never...
