This place came highly recommended to me from a friend. It's tough for me to give this place a 4 star review, but read on.
So when we got there were only a few people in. We came just before lunch rush. We ordered an appetizer and an entree each. We got the brussel sprouts, which were outstanding, and I ordered the Pavilion burger. She asked how I wanted it and we had a distinct conversation about how they could cook it. I choose medium. My wife got something else. Our server was very friendly and we enjoyed our interactions.
Appetizer came out after a normal amount of time. My wife took a picture, so I know it came out at 11:34a. They were fabulous. Really good.
Then we waited for a long time. So long, that we thought something was wrong. Nobody came back to check on me for quite a while, so that I ended up bringing our drinks from the back room up to the bar to ask for some water. A different server got us the water and when she came back with it I inquired about our main dishes. She said she would go back and check.
Well, our original server came out and told us they were just putting together our burgers. I'd bet money they forgot. The entrees came out 38 minutes AFTER our appetizer showed up, which was probably 50+ minutes after we originally ordered. I'm not a snooty person, I get that mistakes happen.
The fries were great. The burger was the driest thing I'd ever eaten. It's kind of amazing because there were some other things on top of it that should have helped more, but it was still a major disappointment. It was not only not medium, it had no moisture of any kind in the burger patty. I mentioned it when the other server came around and she asked how it was. She said she'd tell the kitchen. All in all, it was $18 for a pretty bad experience. They did not offer to adjust the bill at all.
Picture attached. The burger patty is on the bottom for you discerning eyes.
My wife's dish was fabulous. I'm sure she'll write her own review. So all in all...I like the place. Most of the food was excellent, but one part was pretty much terrible. If they had gotten a better cook on that burger it would be an easy 5 stars even with the service...

Read moreA group of 6 of us tried the new Pavilion Grill when we were visiting Vermilion a few weeks ago. I ended up having the best burger that I've had in years! It was so delicious that I can't stop thinking about it.
I’ve always liked French Onion soup and Patty Melts and the French Onion Burger sounded like it was right up my alley. Although lately, I’ve been hesitant to order burgers at restaurants because I seem to have expectations of how they’re going to taste that are never quite realized by the meal. Despite my hesitation, I ordered the French Onion Burger and the rest, as they say, is history.
The Burger: When our food was served, the meat appeared to be at least a half pound burger and so thick that I had to eat it with a fork. The chef later told me that the patty was ground filet and brisket. (That must be the secret. Mmmm.) It came dripping with mozzarella cheese and piled with perfectly caramelized, grilled and rendered onions and garlic on lightly toasted ciabatta bread. It even tasted like they’d added au jus or broth from French Onion soup, but it was probably just the onion/garlic/cheesy flavor combination. I also got a generous amount of fresh cut fries (with the skin on) – my favorite kind.
The service was friendly and prompt and everything on the menu that our group ordered was very good. I heard that they're working on getting a liquor license and hope to have that by the end of summer.
I hope to get back there as soon as I can to try more items...
