I called the vernon location to place an order to pick up, after looking at the menu online. The first guy that answered asked whether it is an order for Wethersfield location or Vernon? When I started placing the order this guy tells me they do not have what I am ordering (which was sheekh kabab) I told the guy online it says you do have that, he denied bluntly. He then offered me something else but did not mention the price. When asked for the price he tells me something that was $20 more than what Sheekh kabab’s would have cost me. I then asked if he could do Chicken Tandoori whilst looking at the prices online (which stated it was $14). To confirm this I asked the guy for the price, he tells me its $18. When asked why he tells me the wethersfield location has different prices than Vernon. I asked why is that since you guys are a food chain and should have set prices, he hands the phone to second person who said the samething but couldn’t explain himself as to why they are charging so much more than their other site. This guy then hands over the phone to “their manager” who was very rude to start off with. I asked him the same question but he too wasn’t able to answer. The only thing he said was “the management is different” I asked but you guys have the same name and are taking orders for them too so how is that okay to name your price according to different management? He very rudely then asks me whether I want to place an order or cancel it?! When I asked for his name and job title he tells me his name is “joe” and he owns the place. I asked what his last name was he said just “joe” no last name then hung up. I then called the Wethersfield location and asked for the manager there, the guy tells me their manager is off today but will be back tomorrow. I asked the guy for their manager’s name and he hungs up on me as well. I am just confused why it was so difficult to answer a simple question about what they are charging and why are their prices so different when they are both affiliated. I would like a legitimate explanation as to why they are charging different prices for the same thing per location? As a paying customer it is my right to ask these questions without being hung up on or...
Read moreSerious charges of DISCRIMINATION AND ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR BY JOSEPH towards women's of Indian nationality. Joseph claims to be the owner.
I am an Indian and I have been going to Utsav for last 4 years very frequently!!! I am a Professor at University of Connecticut and along with my colleagues, we just love the food at Utsav.
Today 8/29/14-Friday, I decided to have dinner at Utsav with my wife. It was very busy, but while we were eating, my sister with her husband and two year old daughter also came. I asked them to join my table after informing the waiter. While we all were eating, we requested a waiter to bring a spoon. It took them a while, so when I saw Joseph, I asked him to bring us a spoon. He said, one minute.....
We kept waiting, and after some time, I requested again. That's when it took ugly turn. Joseph started pointing fingers at me and my sister and started behaving very rudely. I was SHOCKED as we all have been going there for years.
I could not stop myself and told him to behave. To my shock, he started MISBEHAVING with me. So I requested him to talk politely, but he did not stop.
I asked him for the owners number, but he said he is the owner. Finally, my wife went and requested him to treat us with RESPECT, but even that did not stop him from raising fingers and he started SHOUTING at her. He was loud, rude, and asked gee to leave. He did not even wanted to listen to our complaint.
We left very embarrassed and humiliated. Despite its good food, we won't go back to Utsav. My sister had often complained that JOSEPH does not treat Indians well, but I finally witnessed it. She told me that Joseph behaved well only because I went there with my colleagues (non-Indians). So she was right!!
It's been over 12 years in US and I have never been treated like this. What's shocking was JOSEPH did not even spare my wife and my...
Read moreI NEVER leave google reviews because I think that I've never felt compelled to tell the world about my experience at a restaurant, however eating at Utsav Vernon was the best decision ever and I need whoever is reading this review to try it. My dad and I like to go on father-daughter days on occasion, and as a student athlete I have very little non-athletics time, so today (a Thursday) he picked me up from my place of education and we went to Utsav. When we got there they greeted us and gave us a table, the restaurant was clean, organized, and had excellent decor! The waiter was incredibly friendly and even got us waters to start, we ordered an appetizer of the Cheesy Naan Bread and it was PHENOMENAL! Although we are unsure what sauces it was served with, we suspect it to be a kiwi sauce and a tamarin sauce, whatever it was, it was life changing. We unfortunately did not realize they closed at 2:30 P.M. and reopened at 5, so although it was past close time, they still continued to give us excellent service. We also ordered the Samosas, which, as a Samosa lover myself, I can say with confidence that they were amazing! I also ordered the Murgh Shahi Korma, which was chicken in a curried cashew and saffron sauce, I would eat it everyday for the rest of my life and still love it. It was the best thing I ever had. The owner had even come out to say hi, shook our hands and gave us his buisness card! We chatted with him for a few minutes and he was just as polite, kind, and friendly as our wonderful waiter! Although we had declined their offer for dessert (because we didn't want to hold them up anymore) they gave us rice pudding on the house! So PLEASE do yourself the favor of going to Utsav, YOU WILL...
