Saw this pop up on new places to try. It's about a mile from my house and craving egg drop soup I decided to run up before closing. It's located next to where the old Western used to be in Vestavia Hills. It's a small shop with about 8 tables close together filled with people having a nice chat between tables. I got our food to go this time but the portion sizes I saw were fair and steaming hot.
I'm not sure if this is the China Bistro that was near Patton Creek or just a common name. I order Coconut shrimp, egg drop soup, pork egg foo young, crab ragoons( pricey but def tasted unique in a good way), and Mongolian beef. Overall the price was pretty standard. Everything was so hot I actually burned my mouth when I got home, ha. The food was super fresh and I was very impressed.
The Mongolian was my favorite, alot of places have a very sweet syrupy taste to their and I could taste the sear on the meat and the sauce was closer to a savory than a sweet. VERY freaking good. I felt the portion sizes for the coconut shrimp was a little small but frankly the shrimp was huge and delicious so you can be the judge. Egg foo young had a really rich brown sauce that I loved and the soup was classic Egg drop. Crab ragoons were def my favorite overall, that and the Mongolian beef. Def will...
Read moreI've eaten at China Bistro over 15 times since they arrived on Rocky Ridge Road, and it seems every experience gained leaves me with a progressively worse taste in my mouth (literally and figuratively). I used to frequent Mr. Chen's once every week or so, but the convenience to my house made China Bistro seem like a smarter option. Oh was I wrong. My past two experiences at China Bistro over the last month have been nothing less than dreadful, with errors in my orders both times. Not only are there management errors in incorrect orders, as I alluded to previously, the quality of the food has dropped tremendously. Especially seeing that China Bistro is take-out only now, I highly recommend you go anywhere other than here for food. The staff seems nice, but that only goes so far before I am paying for unabashedly mediocre food that appears nowhere on my receipt. It should not be the customer's responsibility to go back to the restaurant to correct repeated mistakes. That is why it is safe to say I will never...
Read moreI’m so disappointed. Was so excited to see a Chinese takeout in my neighborhood. When they first opened they were great. But lately it has not been good at all. The soup I order is always different now. One time it will be bland, next time so spicy it’s not edible. Never consistent. I order soup omitting items. Yesterday tofu was included anyway, even though I ordered without. I ordered steamed dumplings and got home and they had not put any sauce in the box. I ordered a beef dish. The meat was not edible. Cheap, low quality. I hope they see my review and reevaluate things. I tried to explain to them, but the lady appeared to not understand, nor did she offer any explanation or compensation. I will wait a month or so and try...
