Donatos Pizza — Restaurant in Vestavia Hills

I decided to try something different since I'm celebrating my birthday. I was really excited to try Donatos since it's my neighborhood. I read the reviews and people spoke highly about the food and their experiences so my expectations were very high. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. I ordered through the website and showed up a few minutes before the time I was told the pizza would be ready. When I came in I was barely greeted. When I got my food home (3 minutes away) my pizza was cold and looked lackluster. It had an overwhelming amount of bell peppers and red onions, minimal cheese, and the crust and sauce lacked flavor. In order to attempt to enjoy it I had to put it back in the oven and add cheese and seasonings. I expected so much more. Additionally, the asiago cheese bread was decent. The marinara sauce was flavorless, but it was oddly warmer than my actual pizza. The salad I ordered was ok, but it's a fairly large salad and they only gave one packet of dressing. In these uncertain times I guess I would expect restaurants to try to step it up a bit to be competitive and gain and/or...

Very good pizza, BUT horrible service! I rarely review anything online but I'm upset. I called and ordered a pizza for delivery. They took my name, address, phone number, credit card information, and told me it would be about 45 minutes. I get my 2 year old son (who has a fever!) and 4 year old daughter all riled up about it and we wait OUTSIDE for over an hour and fifteen minutes. After hearing "Where is the pizza" 300 times from my daughter, I call them to ask. He tells me they tried calling me back shortly after the order to tell me they don't deliver to my area anymore but had the wrong number. . . that's it. So, instead of going ahead and driving 5 extra minutes outside of their new zone to deliver the pizza, they let us wait on our front steps until we give up! Just a bad business move. I'm from out of town. I get Dustin answering phone. I am trying to place an order and I prefer local vs chain pizza. I ask Dustin about the amount of cheese vs say a chain like Dominoes.
