My family and I went to Beachwood restaurant and lounge on March 30, 2024. This place used to be the best steakhouse in and around town. It had the best service and truly was a top-notch 5-star restaurant. This was my place to "show off" good food in Mississippi. It seems that in the past 2-3 years, something has happened. Rather, it be ownership change, management change, regardless something has happened.
I will start this review by, we were seated immediately. There were quite a few people there, but there also seemed to be a lot of staff to handle the influx of customers. Jessica, our server, had been there for only a week. She was nice and quick to respond and took our order at a decent time. We arrived at the restaurant at 7:00 pm. We were seated the moment we walked in. Our orders were placed with Jessica at 7:15. I ordered a 12 oz ribeye medium well with a medium potato and mac and cheese. My father ordered a 12 oz ribeye medium well with a baked potato and a salad. My mother ordered the beachwood salad.
We were seated right in front of where the steaks were being cooked. The steaks were being piled up and put under a warmer just to be forgotten about. The steaks would sit under the warmer for about 20 mins, where a guy would then take them to the kitchen to sit for another 15 mins before being brought to the table. Jessica told us the steaks were taking longer than usual even though they had been done for 30 min! During this time, employees were looking lost like they didn't know what to do. Employees were sitting and standing against the walls doing nothing while all this food piled up. The icing on the cake was the steak cook arguing with other cooks. At one point, they started yelling at each other and disappeared. It was truly a scene as if the restaurant was running management when it should be the other way.
We finally got our food at 8:00pm. I took a bite out of my steak, and it was cold and raw. I didn't mind it being more rare than medium, but it was ice-cold. I spit it out on top of the steak. I'm sorry it took me off guard as this was not the expected quality. It was merely inedible. The potato had been cooked and fixed for a very long time. It was hard and didn't have a spec of warmth through it. The mac and cheese had a crust forming on the edge of the noodles from being under a warmer for so long. My father's steak was the same way, but his potato was good, and his salad was also good. My mom said the salad was good.
With meals being an average of $45 dollars, I couldn't just see expecting a cold raw steak as being acceptable. I then told Jessica that both steaks were cold. She took both steaks and took them back to the cook. Mind you, I spit on my steak. HE THEN PUTS THE STEAKS BACK ON THE GRILL WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS FOOD! I am unsure if this is normal or not, but I can't see doing this when it is being done right in front of customers. In shock, I asked for the manager. I explained the situation and asked her if she could legally put a steak that I spit on, back on the grill with other food. She replied, "no, not really. I mean if you cut it we can...". That shocked everyone around us. Several tables were shocked as to what had just happened. I then asked for a refund on my meal and my dad was given his warmed up steak back. The manager said she would refund me my meal and refund dad's steak. It took 30 minutes to get the check. When we received the check, she had rung up dad's steak even though it was supposed to be free. Jessica went looking for the manager again to clear up the confusion. 20 mins later, and we were fed up. We told Jessica we would pay the $70 dollar bill. We were tired of waiting. And what do you know? As soon as mom pays, the manager shows up asking if she comped the steaks. Ashley, the manager, didn't try to refund or anything. She apologized and walked off. We did not leave the restaurant till 8:50pm Attached are pictures of previous experience and steaks piled up. Ashley, do better. We will not be back. Thanks for...
Read moreI've been forgetting to write this review these past few weeks, but this was my second time coming to this restaurant and it was just as amazing as the first time I tried it!!
2 weeks ago on April 4, 2024 my parents took me out to eat here for my 22nd birthday because of how much we loved our experience the first time. Needless to say, just like the first time, it did not disappoint! As soon as you walk in, it's a place of true southern hospitality; a friendly patron in the parking lot spoke to us and complimented my mother and I.🥰 We were seated immediately and waited on by one of the best waitresses. (I never knew her name but she was a Caucasian woman with dark hair, and she was outstanding in the service that she provided us! I truly believe she's one of God's people🙏🏽🩵) All of our food was FANTASTIC and worth the wait! My dad got the Texas country fried steak with a loaded baked potato and a side salad with iced tea and water, my mom the Redfish Orleans (I got a taste of it and it was awesome!) with onion rings and a side salad with a water, and I got the Homemade Stuffed Shrimp🍤 with creamed spinach🌱🧀, and a loaded baked potato🥔🧀 with a margarita🍹 and an ice water🧊💧 (our waitress kindly bought me the water before the margarita and I definitely needed it😅🩵). When I first got my food, the stuffed shrimp looked very interesting as it was something I never had before and I wanted to try something new, but when I actually tasted it, I loved it! It's basically like regular sized shrimp that's battered and stuffed with stuffing made with bread, celery, red/green bell peppers🫑, and crab meat I think, but because of this it had a taste and texture that gave a sense of down home comfort, and it came with lemon and a remoulade and cocktail sauce which all gave it a touch of zest and brightness.🍋 The baked potato was good, hot, and cheesy🧀, but the creamed spinach (as always) was absolutely AMAZING!!! It's nice, rich, creamy, cheesy, and just plain delicious!😋 The margarita was good and strong (again, I definitely needed that glass of ice water with lemons. I have to have balance😅🧊💧). I could definitely taste the notes of citrus, orange, and even just a hint of caramel (more than likely from the tequila). It was a nice experience to sip on.🍹And the hot rolls with butter reminded us of those good yeast rolls in the school cafeteria back in the day lol. The dessert was the perfect way to end the evening as my mom and I both ordered the turtle cheesecake.🍫🍰 It was perfect!! Because I love turtle candies and the bittersweetness and deep notes of the dark chocolate perfectly complimented the sweetness of the caramel and crunch of the pecans along with the tanginess and smooth texture of the actual cheesecake part and chocolate crust. But the icing on the cake (besides dessert of course lol) was the ambiance and the environment; the jazz music they had playing from the radio from the Watercolors station (which is our favorite jazz station in the car😅) made our dining experience absolutely delightful😊🎷🎶🩵💜. Our experience here at Beechwood has made this one of the best birthdays I think I've ever had in my life so far. Overall, I truly enjoyed the food, the service, the ambiance, watching the place teeming with life of all ages, and spending quality time with my family here. I definitely know that we will be loyal customers here from now on and come to this place for a nice outing, because my experiences here are truly therapeutic. God bless...
Read moreVery busy; we were seated after only 10 minutes but it got worse very quickly after that. Our table was close to the kitchen door with very little space around it. After we had ordered, a busboy clearing an adjacent table turned quickly and ice from one of the glasses flew out and landed in my wife's lap; no apology from the busboy. The back of my chair was close to a pole and on several occasions one of the busboys would try to squeeze between my chair and the pole and would put his hands on my shoulders to push me out of his way. I asked him to stop but he just ignored me. We waited about 20 minutes for our crab claw appetizer, but it was good. Then the very long wait for our entrees began. After over an hour we asked about the delay and were told the chef was backed up due to several large groups. However, I saw several other tables receive their orders even though we had ordered long before those tables were even seated. We were ready to give up after an hour and 15 minutes when our entrees finally arrived. My steak was good, but my wife's fried shrimp were mushy and barely warm, as though they had been kept under a heat lamp for too long. I expect much better service when the bill is over $90.
I have a few suggestions... If there is a table located where the staff cannot walk past it without bumping the table and the persons seated there, move or remove that table. If large groups are going to cause an hour delay for other tables, don't accept large groups. If there is a delay for food service even after being seated, let the persons know that in case they do not want to wait.
We will not be returning to...
