donut palace — Restaurant in Vicksburg

Was in town this last week and was stopping at a different donut shop in town. Co-worker pointed me here, and I wished I was going here from day 1.

First. The coffee? Consistent, cheap, decent black coffee. Nothing fancy. No frappe, no espresso, at least from what I saw. Just black coffee, cream and sugar if you desire. I'd drink this daily without gripes.

The kolache's. I got the boudin. They heat it up without asking, and it is worth it. I will say I like the kolache from the other shop. But not to say I disliked this one. I liked it alot, but did not care for boudin. I am not from the south, so chalk it up to that. But as soon as I tasted it, I recognized it from other creole dishes I've had. Still a good kolache.

The donuts? WOW! Great selection, and something for everyone. The apple fritter and rasberry filled were fantastic.

I'd go here often if I lived here. I will come back if I ever pass...

Plenty of selection. They have all the classic donuts and the size of them is on the larger end of the scale

The icing itself is sort of a hybrid of royal and something else. Almost a pastey consistency rather than break apart hard icing.

The taste was incredible. Very light and fluffy but just the right amount of sugar and fat ❤️.

My only minor complaint was the cinnamon twist. They are by far my favorite donut ever but these seemed to only really have the sugar and cinnamon on the outside. The actual twist donut needed some cinnamon and sugar baked in because most of the sugar fell off and it was just slightly disappointing.

Would definitely go again on...

The couple that works here works hard. I know from friends that you have to get up crazy early to prep all the dough for the morning. But everyone I go in, the woman has a smile on her face, and is very sweet. They work long, grueling hours, and I appreciate it. The food is delicious! I love the kolaches, and they have a few different types which is cool. They have plenty of different types of donuts, which are good without being too sweet. They also have a good selection of cold drinks. Sometimes I go there just because I can get a redbull without having to get in my car; I work right by them.
