I'll give you the short version first, Good Carnitas Tacos, Good Salsa, bad stank service.
(Take note how there is a pattern in the reviews about this place having horrible service.)
The longer version, I just moved to Apple Valley from orange county. I'm huge on food and couldn't wait to go around town trying places. I had my first taco place and it was nasty. LA Casita was my second place I tried. I walk in and it looked like it was decorated in the 90s and then forgotten. It took about 10 to 15 minutes for anyone to greet us. By the time the guy came to the front he had a line of people trying to pay and leave. But the phone rang so he took care of that immediately, then attended his line. A Grey haired older man (seems like a manager or owner) comes up to help with the line and he took my order. After I said it to him he starred at me for a good 5 seconds without saying a word. We sat and waited about 20 minutes for the food after that, but to pay we had to wait again. We got 3 salsas and asked for another, we got it no problem. Had carne asada and carnitad tacos. Carnitas was bomb, salsa was bomb, that's it. Asada was just OK. I returned days later for more tacos. This time we knew they took forever so we sat at the bar for a drink while we wait. The waiter was nice, but noticed the Grey haired man once again being shady. Again carnitas tacos were fire. We got 3 salsas and asked for a 4th. No problem. Today we returned for... you guessed it. And who was there? You guessed it. But we phone ordered the tacos as we are learning here. We asked for 4 salsas over the phone. Grey haired dude tries to brush it off when I asked him if they are in the bag. I open it to see and there's 2 salsas for 10 tacos you guys. Is asked for 2 more and he wanted to charge $1.50 for each. Heck no. He offered a decent size container of salsa for $2.50 so I bought it but I didn't understand the issue this old man has with me. (Untill I read the reviews and I get it, this place overall all has decent food at a price of stank...
Read moreMy mother and I tried La Casita and I must say, THE FOOD WAS HORRIBLE! They brought out the chips & salsa, which tasted bland. The salsa had no seasoning in it, so I added salt & pepper to see if it would help; it didn't. It was also watered down (maybe too many tomatoes?). I ordered the carne asada nachos & a taco. The red sauce on the nachos was SWEET! 🤮 It tasted awful! I even asked if the sauce was mole bc of the sweetness, but was told it's their enchilada sauce (😬). I tried to pick around it but they drenched the nachos in this red sauce. So then I tried my taco... just a basic ground beef taco. I figured they couldn't mess that up bc tacos are super easy! I was wrong 😫 The meat came with a weird aftertaste. My mom ended up eating the rest of the taco bc I just couldn't stomach it.
The service could've been better, too. We waited several minutes for the waiter to bring us the check, but I eventually had to flag him down so he'd return to our table.
I really wanted to like this place! It has a cute atmosphere, seemed busy, but the food is just disgusting and the service is subpar. I would've had better-tasting food at Del Taco 😒. IMO Mexican food isn't hard to make, but they failed. My usual go-to Mexican spot is PV's or the food trucks. Guess I'll stick to...
Read moreI've eaten here several times along with the Victorville location. I have yet to dine at their Hesperia location. Both places have always had excellent service and, as I am a senior citizen, I love their senior menu! Where else can you get good Mexican food that's filling with soup or salad and a drink for $7.25? If you do the chili relleno it's $0.50 more. I also like their tropical decor. It's not your typical Mexican style but the little thatched roof adds to the ambience. Because they had a special on Margaritas today, I had a mango blended and not only was the taste fabulous, but it actually had alcohol in it. So many times when something's on special they cut back on the alcohol. A couple of the women thought the salsa was too spicy but another friend and I both thought it should be spicier. It all depends on your tolerance for heat. I ordered the senior burrito and it was served hot , so much food that I took half home with me and the chicken tortilla soup was delicious. It's not the fanciest or even the best Mexican food, but considering the price, the service, the food and the effort they've taken to decorate, I'll still give...
