On Sunday 08/31, we were visiting from out of town and went to the bakery next door, which recommended us to this coffee shop as a place to get quiche. The wait to order was long and it was very loud and chaotic with confused people constantly asking each other "are you in line?" like a verizon commercial as there was no clear order line or wait line. I only ordered 1 slice of quiche to-go and got sticker shock at the $13.82 cost, but I assumed the slice would be massive for that price. After at least a 30min wait, my name was called but the item was incorrect. I brought it to the attention of the tall african-american lady who had put it on the counter, and she took the bag from me and angrily threw it away. Then she loudly snapped at the cashier for putting the order in wrong, (though from my pov it seemed like an internal confusion about which flavors were keto and which werent, as my receipt had the correct order on it). When I had first got in line, many people were shaking their head and talking amongst themselves after dealing with this woman who was making angry faces, throwing food around, and putting off serious get-away-from-me-vibes. When I saw these interactions, I assumed she was having a bad day so smiled at her, and got a half grin back, but sadly her mood did not improve. Multiple orders for other people kept coming out but no replacement quiche. I finally had to get back in line and ask a cashier how much longer it would be. She said it only took 7min to heat up the quiche and it had been at least double that on top of the 30min from before. Final straw that made me decide to give a review was after an hour wait, I was given a very TINY, COLD piece of quiche which was not at all worth the high $14 price. Yes, the cafe was busy, but the owners/employees need a huge rework on customer service and atmosphere - Bougie and Bullying are not attractive. I will not be a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen I graduated with my bachelorās degree, I moved back home to Virginia Beach to begin an online masterās degree program, which was not exactly what I wanted. Nevertheless, I decided to make the most of a less-than-ideal situation through the ultimate studying essential: coffee. I made it a mission to try as many coffee shops in the area as possible and canāt decide if it was a good or bad idea to start with 17 Hands because instead of branching out, I just kept coming back!
I was initially drawn to 17 Hands for such a fun assortment of specialty flavors. My quick perusing of their social media accounts indicated a fun atmosphere, so I had to check it out myself. While itās not somewhere I would go to study, I can confirm the vibes are good. The first drink I tried was the fluffernutter latte, which was a gamble. I am passionate about peanut butter but had never considered pairing it with coffee, and it did not disappoint. As you can probably surmise from the pictures attached, many more fun beverages have since been consumed! I can confidently say that 17 Hands has my favorite cold brew in the area. And whatās not to love about a coffee shop with house-made flavored whipped cream?!
One slight drawback is that 17 Hands is no secretāit can get busy on the weekends, and you might have to wait for your drink. That said, I will continue to campaign that good coffee or their INCREDIBLE house-made chai is worth the wait. Come with a friend-- itās just extra time to enjoy each otherās company, and once the caffeine hits your system, any residual grumpiness is guaranteed to leave your body.
All that to say, I will continue to refer friends to 17 Hands. Iāve sampled some other coffee shops, but something keeps pulling me back to 17 Hands. What started as a letās-make-the-best-of-a-less-than-ideal-situation has now morphed into āLetās go to 17 Hands...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWas not happy with the cake slices I purchased. Over $15 for 2 slices, 1 German chocolate and 1 lemon. I donāt mind the price but for that price I expected a good moist slice. My husband had the German chocolate slice which was much shorter and smaller than the lemon and packaged differently too. He said it was dry and not very good. I had the lemon which was dry and had a strong artificial taste and the icing was overly sweet and not a good match to cake. I asked for my receipt and was given attitude and then had to wait due to receipt printer being out of tape. When new tape was put in about 10 receipts printed out. I was given a receipt but when I looked at it later to saw it was someone elseās for quiche and cake. Also wasnāt happy that the business is not connected, bakery side to coffee side. I wanted a nice coffee and then cake slices to take home. I went in the 17 hands side and there was no cake so went next door and asked about a nice coffee and was told Iād have to go back next door for that as couldnāt buy that on that sideā¦is this 1 business or 2. This is 4th time Iāve shopped here and want to like as local but so confusing it makes it hard. 1st and 2nd time it was hard to get service, 3 time I placed an order for biscuits and scones for 3 days later only to be told they didnāt have the order when I went to pick upā¦they finally found order but it made me 20 minutes late to work with the items for work breakfast. Now the 4th time I feel overcharged for what I received due to poor taste and no correct receipt. Just...
