I have tried bobo's chicken, livers, gizzards, mac&cheese, and black eyed peas. So here is my honest review because that is what we are here for is to give our opinion so here goes...first of all the prices were a complete shock they are extremely pricey so I was hesitant at first but I had to try it and they got my order completely wrong the service was very slow even though there was maybe 7 people eating there and had all been served before I entered the building plus besides poor service from workers who were very nice people the portions were very tiny the chicken was so skimpy, tiny that I hope the owner only pays $1 for a package of 50 pieces...also the sauce they use was absolutely disgusting whoever makes it needs to go back to cooking class in middle school to learn the basics cause it was the absolute worst chicken I ever ate I would rather eat a live chicken. The livers were very gross and burnt as well as the black eyed peas also burnt to a crisp. The mac&cheese was bone dry and bland is an understatement and completely flavorless isn't a powerful enough description. The 8 piece chicken meal sides were big enough to only feed a newborn baby. Just everything was terrible except for the manners of the employees. Also I watched a worker scoop ice cream without gloves and she had her fingers all in the tiny scoop that she served a customer and that alone is unsanitary and unacceptable. I have waited months watching the beautiful remodeling of that building just to try what they call fine chicken only to be extremely disappointed by the price and unskilled cooking abilities of whoever cooked it or created this monstrosity of a menu not to mention very slim pickings of a menu. Even my friends all agree that it was a waste of time and money to try this place that we had very high hopes for and I believe any good reviews about this place that are positive must only be from employees and friends of people who work there, have and do not wanna hurt their boss or friends feelings by posting the truth eitger that or the reviews are by people who have no taste buds. All in all there is nothing good about bobos "Fine" chicken causs there is zero things fine about this place except for the nice job they did on restoring the building. I'm very sorry but this is all the honest truth people want tge truth and an honest review since that's what the comments are here for to help people find good places with decent prices and good food and if I could I would give it minus stars.I apologize to who wasted their money up to and including the owner but this place was an Epic Failure and I am sad to see a good location wasted on a lousy restaurant. They will probably delete my review cause only way to get 5 stars was to keep only good reviews and delete negative reviews but I only hope the owner sees this...
Read moreTo start I have been to this establishment quite a few times now, and every visit is consistent in every aspect! This is a now a true VB locals spot, want to keep it for myself, however; Bobos needs to be shared. The fried chicken tops the competition. Sorry, I will not put them up against the fast food joint, BoBo’s is definitely categories above them. The long standing Pollard’s Chicken in VB is not as good as BoBo’s. With that said, the fried chicken battle is fierce and BoBo’s is the top contender for fried chicken.
The fried chicken is done old school, has a darker crisp to it and it is seasoned very well. The chicken remains juicy, even ordered the breast from time to time just to see if the white meat dries out a bit…..nope. Still juicy! The tenders are wonderful, a bit small at times, but they do pack a punch of flavor. There are chicken sandwiches to chicken sandwiches all over the place now a days….all the fast food joints are trying to compete with Chik-Fil-A. Even gas stations like Royal Farms has their version of a chicken sandwich (which is pretty good) are in the game, Bobo’s chicken sandwich has them all beat. Seriously, stop by and try it for yourself.
The sides are phenomenal, they have that homemade taste. My go to sides are the mac’n cheese, the Brunswick stew and the slaw. They also have pickled items on their menu, which are delightful. The pickled green beans are a must try for sure, look for them in the box with your chicken. To wash it down, try their limeade…it’s exceptional. Not many places offer limeade. For those that want a little extra, they have beer as well. The ice cream is pretty good as well, very good seasonal flavors which is very nice!!
The place itself is simple and above all very clean. Keep the good standards, don’t have to be a fancy lavish place to be on top. This place is there with their upkeep and good cleaning standards.
For the finale, the staff. The staff, their attitude, the way a customer is received….top notch service!! Keep that up. Don’t change…make it better even. Need some more of these people in 2024.
Stop by BoBo’s….you will not be disappointed. Highly recommended for sure. Definitely will be frequenting the place throughout 2024.
Good job BoBo’s,...
Read moreNothing like picking up chicken, driving home and finding what looked like burnt chicken in your dinner. No phone number to call either when I visited their website.
I did drive back to see if I could purchase chicken that didn't look, smell and taste burnt. I was told "No, that is how our chicken is prepared".
Bo, the owner, came out and I was offered a chicken strip meal as a replacement. I accepted it to take home to my wife.
Bo explained to me that their recipe calls for battered chicken, instead of breaded chicken. It is an old family recipe and there are only two places that he knows of that have this style of fried chicken. One is in New Orleans and the other is at Bo's Fine Chicken on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach.
He asked if I had tried the chicken. I admitted that I had only tried a piece of the coating and that it tasted burnt to me. He offered the fried chicken to me to take home and try. I agreed.
I did eat the chicken and it still tasted burnt. The chicken on the inside was perfectly cooked and was very moist. It wasn't bad, but to me, it wasn't what I was used to. Bo had told me that we as consumers have been brainwashed into thinking that breaded chicken is the way to go.
I was raised on Pollards, Hardees and Farm Fresh fried chicken and gizzards. With Hardees no longer making fried chicken and Farm Fresh out of business, I had really hoped that a new Fine Fried Chicken joint would sate my appetite. Who knows, maybe Bo's unique recipe will...
