El Azteca Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant! The food is always tasty, hot and delicious!! We've dined here since they opened and in 75 or so visits, we've never had a bad meal. The can accommodate a solo diner or groups up to 20 or more. We've had several large dinner parties with neighbors there and all have been spectacular. The restaurant is very clean, spacious and has several TV's. The bar is loaded with the best drinks and is very welcoming. We pre-ordered and picked up their food this year for our Super Bowl party. It was nice and hot, delicious as always, and the " hit" of the evening. I kept getting asked "where did you get this great food" from our guests. Needless to say, there was very little left at the end of the game. Chuey is awesome and runs a great restaurant. He makes you feel welcome and is always very friendly and smiling...as is his staff!!! They provide fantastic service and are quick to respond if needed. Usually this is my fiancée an my go to place so on my way home from work decided to stop an place a too go order at the bar an have a happy hour drink while I wait. So i place my order and i got chicken an mushrooms (arroz con honcho) and also a fajita but little did I know another couple of another race sitting at the bar paying attention to what I’m ordering yells out mofungo where’s that on the menu the bartender told them the correct name but when he left this lady (looks like a manager) comes over an they start talking an joking but then they brought it up again “he ordered mofugo” an she laughed an entertained the heckling which isn’t appreciated when a patron is simply trying to order there food have a drink an wait in peace. Then before they left heckled again about “enjoy your mofungo” I politely didn’t respond but i shouldn’t have to feel any kinda wait for a quick visit. So, another Mexican Restaurant opened near us and since we consider ourselves Mexican Food connoisseurs, we wanted to check it out. It's like most Mexican places in Virginia Beach, same decor, same music, same fast service and same quality of food, comparable to Senor Fox, Plaza Azteca, Guad's, etc. I ordered the chicken fajitas and my wife had the pork carnitas. I could have closed my eyes and I wouldn't have been able to tell you which local Mexican spot I was in, because they all taste very similar and have almost identical menus. It's hard to stand out in this cuisine. You really have to work at it. We'd go back, but there are several other Mexican Restaurants out there that I'd go to before coming here.
