Mr Shawarma Virginia Beach — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

Mr. Shawarma I love you guys. Been going for years. I also love that you expanded to Virginia Beach.

Unfortunately, had an off-putting experience today with a mobile order. Ordered at 4:40PM on June 11th, requested to pick up at 5:20. No issues there.

Normally the mobile orders are stacked on the right before the bathrooms on the mobile order shelves. Walked in at 5:25 to give a little extra time in case you all were busy (it was, about 4-5 people in line). The order wasn’t up there yet.

I waited about 5 minutes before walking up to the cashier and asking if they had my order. I showed that I had placed the order with the receipt on my phone from the mobile app. Told them my name. Employees kept looking. Then, they asked me if I ordered to the Norfolk location, and I showed them the text confirmation to the Virginia Beach location.

After a few more minutes of looking, the cashier pulls my mobile order out from behind the counter and asks me to confirm my name. I said “Joe, it might be under Joseph”. She handed me the order and I said “yeah that’s me”. Here’s the thing that caused me to write my review, she responded with “you said Joe, not Joseph”.

Why is that an issue? I don’t memorize what my name is registered as in 30+ apps on my phone, and I’ve never met a single person that doesn’t know that “Joe” is short for “Joseph”. It seemed like the comment was less about admitting a misunderstanding and more about who was right. I was totally cool too, didn’t get impatient or disruptive. I actually apologized to them for the misunderstanding, and didn’t even receive a glance or acknowledgment. It just felt like “yeah whatever go away”.

Like I said, I love you guys and will continue to support you, but employees acknowledging customers and being a little more courteous would...

The food here is exceptional and you will not be disappointed. We were thrilled when they opened the location here in VB as we always had to plan our trips to Norfolk to visit the original location.

Went in to pick up lunch today right at 1100 and it was another 5 star review for service, atmosphere, quality, and exceptional staff.

We have only run into one issue and are hoping it was an isolated incident. While ordering online using the app and selecting delivery, our order was never picked up by their FlipDish Delivery service. A family member ended up picking the food up for us and after calling the restaurant twice, the manager Frank did everything he could to make it right. We haven't tried delivery again since but pick up has never let us down. I would say if your going to do delivery, use an app like Doordash where you have some recourse since Flipdish said it was on the restaurant and we refuse to believe that.

The food was genuinely delicious—every bite had that perfect balance of spice and comfort. What’s even better, everything on the menu was available. No substitutions. No “sorry we’re out.” Just a full spread, ready to go.

The staff deserves just as much credit as the kitchen. Every person we interacted with was kind, welcoming, and clearly took pride in their work. But the standout was the manager—accommodating, professional, and genuinely attentive. You don’t always get that combination of warmth and efficiency in a casual spot, but they nailed it here.
