Pa’l Carajo Arepa Lounge — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

We’ve come here 4 times so far and our most recent visit was by far the most disappointing. The food is always very good and comes out quickly. Pabellón, empenadas, arroz, caraotas, arepas, it’s all really well made. But our last visit was very disappointing. We were the only customers on a Saturday at 1:30 PM. We always sit outside since the music inside is so loud and interrupting but with the cold weather we had little choice. Music so loud you can barely even think let alone have a conversation, not to mention it’s just a YouTube DJ on the tv. To their credit it is a very authentic Venezuelan experience. Loud music, employees yelling, and all the polar and frescolita you can drink. Service is usually very good but this time our server only visited the table once, never refilled my wife’s very empty fountain soda but asked me if I wanted another beer even though it was over halfway full. We’re the only customers on the whole restaurant, you can refill a soda.

I also should point out a fountain soda is 4 dollars. 4 dollars. That is insane for the amount you get and it’s only made worse when they can’t be bothered to refill yours a single time over the course of an hour visit.

During this hour what I had to guess was the owner was trying to open his liquor cabinet and failing. That was kind of entertaining to see happening, especially when the cooks came out and tried to help.

I’ll update this review when we inevitably go again and hopefully have better service. I’d love to give this place the 5 stars it 100% should have gotten but this last visit really left us disappointed. This restaurant deserves to be packed with people and slammed with business but it’s not, and I think we saw some of the reasons why. Please for the love of god turn down the music, have some professionalism in front of house, and make this a more welcoming experience. A friend recommend us this place because we're always looking for good Spanish food. We was thinking, why not to give it a try. Of course I look up first how many starts and the review's and they are good. When we got there our first though was, small nice place. We order and got a vibration thing (sorry don't remember right now the name lol) the food took long time to get but I will take that as something good. ............ This review is from a second time visiting the store. We drove there on a Sunday and it was close even when Google maps was saying is supposed to be open. Nobody was there and it was around 1pm. So there was a chalk board saying that we should look at their Facebook or other social media. So I go on their Facebook page and there was nothing saying about being close. I did not have a good experience at this place. The food is overpriced, and so are their drinks. I ordered a "natural juice," and there was nothing natural about it. It tasted like Hit juices, which is more like a soda as opposed to an actual natural juice. They also filled the glass with ice, so they don't have to serve as much "natural juice". I went during the week, and only 2 other tables were being served. Even with that, the food took forever to come out. After waiting for about 25 minutes, the waitress came by my table and said that the food would come out in just a few more minutes, which actually turned out to be an extra 10 minutes. During the upsetting long wait, there was a worker who thought she was at a Karaoke bar, as she was singing along a song that was playing in the radio. She was singing on the top of her lungs.
