I went in on the 18th of June to order a cake for my daughter's second birthday. I was told that the image I brought in could be done, but not the face because it was copywrited. This was fine, any parent of a Mickey Mouse obsessed child knows that the black silhouette of the famous mouse works perfect. I pay for what I've asked for and was given an email to email the image to. I was not given a receipt on this day, but I did email them with date, name, time and image along with the appropriate message.
Fast forward to the 25th, my daughter's birthday, and the day I needed the cake. I go in to pick it up and immediately had a bad feeling. The cake was not in front like the rest of the cakes being picked up, it was in back. As she brought it to the counter and showed me, she immediately asked if something was wrong, but in a way that suggested they knew they messed up and were hoping to not get caught. It was a plain jane pink and white cake. No Minnie silhouette, nothing special about it. I told them what it was missing, and all of a sudden, someone who couldn't remember me supposedly remembered verbatim our discussion a little over a week ago. She said she stated then it was extra for the silhouette, which I had already paid for. She stated it would be $24 extra. She claims she stated that at our first order transaction. She did not, she only mentioned that the face is copyrighted and could not be done but the silhouette could. Told her the size, the day we need it, etc. She gave me a total ($50 ish) and I gave her my card. I didn't get a receipt just the email to send the image to.
As I wait for them to fix this cake I started noticing things. People who were coming in and out buying cakes were getting much much nicer more elaborate cakes then what I had ordered and one person only paid $29 for theirs including buying an extra cupcake. Mind you this lady was acting like I hadn't already paid for my cake on the 18th. She acted like I was going to be charged for the cake that was already paid for. Another person walked in and tried to pay for her cake, and was informed she already paid. But she couldn't see that I had already paid? Hmmm.. Anyway, when the cake comes back from being "fixed" it looked like my 2 year old had put the silhouette together, not exactly what I had pictured. I was not letting this cake place ruin my daughter's birthday so I went with it. After all she's two. They asked if I wanted my receipt, which was paid for on the 18th. I said yes, and surprise surprise the extra $24 charge was already on there for the decoration they claimed they had no idea about, the same decoration they tried saying I didn't want to pay extra for (but I did pay for it a week ago) . So they got the cake wrong, blamed me for the email, blamed me for them doing the cake wrong, then tried to charge me twice. They did not admit that they made a mistake, or that I did indeed pay a week earlier for the silhouette and "extra" decorations. And while they weren't exactly rude, I did feel as if they were gossiping in the back, still trying to blame the ordeal on me. I had proof of sent email, I had proof from my card transactions it was paid for and proof on the receipt that I did in fact order and pay for what they claimed I never asked for. Dates don't lie.
I was going to go to DreamCake but everyone wanted to praise Sugarplum. I tried Sugarplum and this is what I got. I did not appreciate the lack of customer service and how inefficient they were. This was more stress then a heart failure patient needs all because of a cake and a lousy company that can't admit they didn't check their email, did the cake wrong, and then tried placing all blame on me. I am in the military with my husband and I can say we have a lot of going away and retirement parties and they could have had a great and loyal clientele list. But because of this I will never go there again. I wouldn't recommend it because the hassle was so much. However, the cake itself tasted pretty great, but it wasn't worth the...
Read moreI debated on writing this review, because I love what this bakery stands for. Which is the one of the reasons I chose to order my daughters sweet 16 cake from 4 hours away with them. However for people who dedicate and speak online with great emphasis on helping others, they had no interest in helping me. I was treated with no empathy, and spoken to in a condescending tone with a very dismissive demeanor by a lady who i believe is the manager. I added a layer of cake for my daughters birthday cake and the team failed to tell me they would not be able to enclose the cake in a box because of the height. When i arrived the cake looked ok (subpar decorations) but it was pretty. The lid on the box of the cake was taped at a slant about 6 inches exposing the cake. the team expressed they cant close it because the cake is too tall. I asked if there is anything we can do. maybe plastic wrap or layer it with another box to prevent anything from touching the cake, as my party was 3 hours out. the associated went and got another box with the intention of helping me, but then the manager came out and stopped it. She said we cant do it, if anything touches our icing it will damage the cake. I told her i understand and attempted to brain storm ideas for a resolution. Every time i spoke i was cut off, she said she cant be liable for the cake getting damaged, even tho she already is liable if anything land or falls on the cake with an open top. she continued to refuse to help. or help me come to some resolution, even tho the associate before was more than happy to help. She had no care to how important this cake was for my daughters sweet 16 which i had been planning for months, and put a major damper on my daughters day. I ended up leaving with the cake and an extra box to try and navigate how to cover the cake myself. Fast forward 15 min later taking the cake to my room until the party, a strong wind came and sure enough! Beach sand or some kind of dust blew on the top of the cake! leaving black dots all over the top of the cake. This is exactly why i requested the cake be closed in! Its hard for me to believe they deliver taller cakes with no cover or box at all (which she said they do). That has to be unsanitary in some capacity. We ended up singing happy birthday to my daughter and had to scraped the entire top of the cake off in order to eat it. I appreciate the associates for empathizing and showing compassion, they understood how i was feeling, but to the manager. you should be ashamed of how you failed to find a solution to my issue, or even communicate with me without being belittleing. Go forward, buy get bigger boxes, it's a bakery people will want larger cakes. Learn compassion, and learn how to treat every customer the same, cause i have a feeling if i wasn't who i was i would have been treated differently. (take that how you want). Lastly live by your motto " ITS ALL ABOUT THE PEOPLE" A cake is a big deal for some people! especially me as i didn't get my first cake till i was in my 30's. I promised to always buy my kids cake on their special day! and my daughter was so upset when she saw dirt on top of the cake and we had to scrape off the top to consume it. I hope this finds you, and you learn from your mistakes. so know one else has to be made feel small, by your lack of empathy, and you...

I heard so many things about Sugar Plum Bakery over the years and I promised myself that I would use them when I had an important cake order. Well surprise, my dad's 50th birthday is a big deal sooo. . here I was. . ordering for him.
My dad's birthday is in the beginning of December however, family was in town for Thanksgiving. My boyfriend that it would be a good idea to do a small surprise during Thanksgiving for him. I ended up ordering the cake about two weeks early because I wouldn't have time to come in closer to the date. Ordering the cake was smooth. The team members helped me in building what I wanted. It came out a little more expensive than I thought it would be but I knew it was going to be worth it. I had ordered a custom Mozart cake. The batter was almond and the inside had Bavarian Cream & Peanut Butter. On the outside of a mozart was Butter cream topped with Fudge. . then I added Sprinkles to make it .. "festive" for the birthday!
I had to pick up the cake before 4pm the day before Thanksgiving because of the adjustment of hours. When I walked in around 3, it was a mad house but I ended up getting help right away. Everyone was picking up their orders for the holiday. Also, it was cool how they already had premade cakes and pies on display for easy pick up. Both times I have came in, I would have to kindly pretend that I didn't want anything else BUT I DID. The cupcakes on display looked so good!
I know I will be back. The cake was amazing and one of the best I had in while. I am excited to try other items on their cake list and also a pie...
