Excited when I saw the menu online, disappointed after actually going. First things first, this place does not want to provide you with service. You are not welcomed when you enter, nobody is taking your order, and nobody is standing there to answer questions. You order and pay on an ipad type kiosk. You are also required to give them your cell phone number on the kiosk so they can text you and yell out your name when your food is ready. Not the best start, but was still excited about the menu and thought since it cost $45 for lunch that the food would make up for it.
It did not. We ordered the equivalent of a chicken sandwich combo(sandwich, fries, and drink), a chicken finger combo (with mac and cheese and collard greens and a drink) and wanted to try the fried green tomato app so ordered it as well. The chicken was ok. Not as good as any other fast food or fast casual chain i can think of. The chicken tenders combo came with three tenders, and a serving of greens and mac and cheese for $16. Expect to be pretty good for that price, right? Nope. Greens were a little undercooked and woefullly underseasoned. Mac and cheese was filled with hard pasta that was overcooked like you get on the edge of the pan where the pasta can go past done and enter crunch territory. And as mentioned, the chicken was just ok.
The fried green tomatoes had a chance to save the day, but were covered in so much sugary relish that they were soggy within a minute and tasted more like sugar than fried green tomatoes. They also fall flat at their price point with how youre served. The drink cups are clear solo cups. The utensils are the cheap to go bags. The sandwich and fries came in a cheap paper container like you get at a minor league baseball game and the chicken tenders meal and tomatoes were in those cheap aluminum to go containers.
Even better, when we went to leave the circular holes above their trash cans to dump your waste were too small for the aluminum trays to drop through, so you get to play a game of "dont squish these too much so the food gets all over you, but squeeze enough so you can throw them away."
A place with zero service and cheap stuff can still be delicious and make up for it. This place does not. At the the end of the day, if you get a three chicken finger meal with two sides for $18.50 when you add a drink, you expect a pretty decent meal. This did not deliver. And when you add in the lack of service and overall cheapness of what you do get, it will leave you...
Read moreI read that they had been in the running for best fried chicken in Richmond so I tried them for lunch today. The place was packed and very nice. I was having a hard time doing my online order because the sun glare from the windows made me just see my reflection in glass and a very nice young gentlemen came over and asked if it was first time that he could help. I had been having a hard time searching for the gluten free fried chicken and he said everything can be gluten free. I selected the tenders and he clicked something on the screen that made them gluten free, then he finished my order for me. You only have one side so I selected the slaw and decided I didn't need french fries. But while waiting for my order, I changed my mind and added another order for fries and a few extra sauces. I don't like spicy honey, but they did not have an option for just plain honey on the touch screen. I was really surprised that the gluten free chicken breading was so crisp and crunchy but it did not have much flavor. The chicken was moist and tender. The slaw had no flavor, but the fries were really crispy but had no flavor or seasoning. Maybe he selected no seasoning for everything (which is an option on the touch screen), or maybe my taste buds were having an off day. I got gluten free cat fish recently elsewhere in Richmond and it was horrible. Tasted like chick peas. So maybe absence of a flavor or seasoning is a good thing. I actually asked the nice young gentleman when I picked up the orders why they didn't offer honey as a sauce and he said they do, it's just not on the touchscreen. He went in the back and brought me some. It wasn't very good honey but I'm used to honey from a local vendor and maybe it's watered down for use in recipes. I will try again soon. Wish I'd asked for the young man's name who was so kind...
Read moreI was excited to see a new fried chicken place especially with high reviews, but our experience was not a 5 star rating. First the good - inside is nice with a variety of seating, the place is very clean, there was a woman (owner or manager) who was very polite to us and other guests, the Mac and cheese is very good, and the buttermilk ranch dressing was the best I have ever had. On the neutral side, the prices are pretty expensive but the portions are large so price for size is correct. On the downside is the flavor. I got a sandwich, my wife got a wrap, and we got tenders for the kids. The breading in the tenders was not flavorfully at all. I was actually disappointed with this as I expected a really good breading flavor. I also think a better oil in the fryer would make for a better taste. Unfortunately the tenders were a little tough. My sandwich was a similar experience. Not a lot of flavor and semi tough chicken. The hot sauce was good but nothing special. The wrap was along par of just OK. The fries were OK, the seemed to have a lot of seasoning but again lacked flavor. There was a side of Cole slaw we had that was good but again nothing to brag about. By the name of the place, interior design, and price I was expecting some of the best chicken and sides around. Instead it was mainly mediocre. Maybe we hit a bad night. I would try again but if the second experience is similar to this one I would have to say the place is too pricy for...
