This was a disappointment overall with some bright spots. Let me highlight the pros first
Pros: The spinach and artichoke dip was a great starter. The dip is creamy and the pita is warm. Hard to stop your self from eating all of it on your own. This was my grandparents anniversary so my wife and I were excited to see that limeade (my grandmothers favorite) was available and they added some gin at our request as well! The Key Lime Pie. Honestly just get it. Very good. Not too sweet but the crust was flakey and the added whipped cream gives you a chance to add a little more sugar should you want it. Probably best plate of the night.
Now the bad: I ordered a Long Island Iced tea and it came out completely yellow. Was just a cup of sour mix. I told the waiter and he promptly brought me a mule instead. This wasn’t really a “bad” as they fixed my issue so no real complaints. But The Daily carry’s itself like a nice place with high end options. A bar tender really should know that a Long Island isn’t yellow. Our cloth napkins were dirty, and our table had sticky dried food on it. The waiter fixed both of those issues as well. However it’s starting to get a little awkward that we keep running into these issues. The Buffalo Cauliflower starter wasn’t terrible but the Cauliflower was very mushy. Not far from Cauliflower mashed potatoes territory. Now comes the worst part to me. I ordered a burger hoping it was a simple item so likely wouldn’t be an issue to do well. Unfortunately the lettuce came out brown and very wilted. I brought it to the waiters attention apologizing for yet another complaint. He however said that’s normal for the daily. The lettuce “usually” looks this way. His explanation was that after they cooked the burger they set it under a heat lamp so the lettuce usually looks brown. As someone who works in the food industry I know heat lamps can wilt but to turn my lettuce brown is unlikely. And even if that’s true…Dude bring me some green lettuce and stop lecturing me on heat lamps! When I pushed by saying “you would eat this?” He replied “yeah!” So when I asked if he thought the daily would put this burger on their website he agreed it looked bad. But did not offer to fix it. I will attach a picture of the aforementioned lettuce. It’s sad to me that an issue that McDonalds would quickly fix The Daily was unwilling to. And if I pay $150 for dinner, I would like a clean table, clean napkins, and green lettuce. Unfortunately this appears to be too much to ask...
Read moreI placed an order for pick up Dec 9th at 1:45pm. When I got there I called and told them my name and that I was there to pick up an order. They told me it’ll be right out... 1:50pm, the hostess comes to my car and again asked me for my name and it’ll just be a few minutes... 2:10 pm, I get out of my car and go into the restaurant where the hostess proceeds to tell me they don’t have an order with my name. Mind you she let me sit out there for 20 minutes KNOWING She couldn’t find my order. At this point I’m upset, I had guest arriving to my home at 2pm, I expected to be back home at 2p, since I placed my order well in advanced. The hostess asked if I had a confirmation number and if I ordered through chop chop rva, I did and I gave her the info. She was able to pull it up. She apologized and told me there was a miscommunication with chop chop rva, and that she would rush my order and tell her manager. I then left and went to notify my guest (I live less than a mile away) that there was a mix up with our food. I then returned to Daily Kitchen in which the food was ready. The hostess then brought her manager (Chelsea) who apologized profusely and stated “I will call chop chop RVA and have them refund you because of your inconvenience”. I felt that was reasonable and said okay. It is now Jan 21st.... and I have yet to receive a refund. I waited 7-10 business days before I called Daily Kitchen to speak to Chelsea to see if she had actually called them to refund me. I waited that long just in case they gave me the excuse it hasn’t been 7-10 business days. Not only did Chelsea did not have the common courtesy to speak with me directly on the phone, she told the hostess, that I had to call chop chop RVA to inquiry about a refund. So that tells me she hadn’t called them in the first place. This was my first time eating at Daily Kitchen and using Chop Chop RVA, and it will absolutely...
Read moreIt was our first visit to this restaurant that is new to the Short Pump area, though we have enjoyed the one in Carytown previously. The farm to table food is just as fresh and well prepared, with so many options to please our party of 6 and everyone's different tastes. However, for a party of 6, we experienced few comfortable seating options. The bench seating is very small, and though we were placed at a larger bench, once we were seated, it was difficult for three of us on one side of the bench to actually move our arms to eat our food. Also, the tables are barely deep enough as well. We noticed round tables toward the back of the restaurant that hold 6 chairs around easily enough, but the size of those tables seemed disproportionately small as well. So that wasn't helpful. The manager very friendly about it, but he told us there was no larger table to accommodate us. Though we had reservations and arrived on time for them on a Friday evening at 6:30, putting two smaller tables together was not an option as every other table was already full in the restaurant. So you may want to ask for special accommodations ahead of time, as in putting two tables together, if you plan to bring a larger party. Also, the acoustics were not very easy on the ear. I thought it was just me at first, but then all of us realized we had trouble hearing each other, though sitting right next to or right across from one another. We continually had to ask each other to repeat what we were saying, and this also happened with the server. All in all, everyone very much enjoyed the food, and the service could not have been more friendly. So if you like a high-energy atmosphere with your wonderful meal, and in a larger party don't mind cuddling when you eat, or challenging your voice to be heard above the din, you're in the...
