China Star — Restaurant in Virginia

We stopped here for a meal on our way home from Hampton, and it was one of the worst dining decisions we've made. We ordered two family meals for our group of five, expecting ample food, but it was far from enough. Normally, a single family meal suffices at most restaurants, but here, the portions were shockingly small. On top of that, the prices were absurdly high—$7 for a quart of white rice and $2.30 for a single shrimp roll, which is completely unreasonable.

As for the food quality, it was incredibly disappointing. The shrimp rolls had a fishy aftertaste and were barely filled. The chicken on a stick was the only thing that came close to being decent, but even those kabobs were tiny. The lo mein, sesame chicken, and beef and broccoli were inedible. The lo mein had an unpleasant, strange taste, the sesame chicken tasted like a bland General Tso’s with no spice, and the beef and broccoli was completely flavorless and lacked any sauce. We had to add soy sauce, oyster sauce, and MSG just to make it edible.

It's baffling how this place maintains a rating above 4.0. Honestly, it deserves no more than a 2.0. Save yourself the disappointment and find a better option if you're looking for decent Chinese food in Williamsburg. Do yourself a favor and travel elsewhere, if this is the best Williamsburg...

HORRIBLE! The food was decent enough, HAD IT BEEN WHAT I ORDERED! The woman i placed my order with only heard half of what I was saying. Asked for Beef Lo-mein, got Beef Chow-mein. Asked for CHEESE WONTONS and got FRIED WONTONS. Asked for FRIED RICE, got WHITE RICE. Seriously. Its like she only heard part of what i was saying....and its not even like they were busy. Tried to call and get my order corrected and the person on the other end of the phone just started explaining the differences in what I ordered VS what I got. Uh, yeah dude you screwed up my order. I know that these are different. THAT IS WHY I'M CALLING! The food that I did receive tasted ok enough, but I've lost my appetite after dealing with this level...

This food is so unauthentic to what American Chinese food should be. I ordered from here 2 times and was disappointed each time. I ordered Shrimp Fried Rice once and I literally only got shrimp and rice in the dish. There was no culinary creativeness with their food. No onions, scallions, no bean sprouts; I mean nothing! I could have made that at home if I had know it would not be a full recipe. My next order was Orange Chicken with brown rice (which was $2.00 more) and got home to open my meal to find they did not give me the brown rice I paid for but the white rice instead. SMH. The taste of the chicken was mediocre at best. I would definitely not recommend ordering...
