Dairy Queen (Treat) — Restaurant in Virginia

NOT FRIENDLY. NOT CLEAN.

Every time I walk in no one is smiling, and they all seem very unhappy to work there. I think I know why, because one time I was there and the owner was behind the counter. He seems very miserable. I was cheerful and looking forward to ice cream, and even tried to be friendly with him as he showed no response; almost rude, as he ordered the kid working for him to make my ice cream.

The store is not kept clean. The bathrooms are gross, and any spills or mess on the floor stay there all day. The garbage bins look like they’ve never been washed.

Lastly… DQ is overpriced. $7 for a small cup of ice cream?? Seems excessive when you can buy an entire tub from the grocery store for the same price. On top of that they ask you for a tip! I’m getting tired of systems that request a tip for simply buying a product. The owner sat there and watched me pay as if pressuring me to see if I’d tip, which I didn’t, so he then walked away with a look of disappointment. No “thank you.” No “have a nice day.” Just turns his back on me, tells his employee what to make, and walks away. They even have a cash tip jar by the register. Ridiculous! You did your job. You aren’t a server who waits on tables refilling drinks, cleaning tables, carrying food, establishing rapport, and ensuring an enjoyable dining experience. THAT is earning a tip. All you do is just scoop some ice cream in a cup, maybe sprinkle it with toppings and/or stir it up in a machine, stick a spoon in it and hand it to me. And you can’t even seem do that with a smile. I’m not tipping for that.

I went here on rainy day looking for a good treat. When I was sadly disappointed with the service I received from the manager being rude. He became frustrated trying to figure out to take payment with a gift card. He told me it doesn’t work and walked away. When I told him to check the balance because it was a brand new card given to me, he took 5 min messing with the machine. I moved here from Georgia in July. I've been craving Dairy Queen ever since. I live in Stafford so my husband and I decided to drive to Dumfries at 8pm. I got a chili cheese dog meal to go. I got home, there was a drop of chili on it and NO cheese!! Originally I wanted a cheese burger but unaware to my knowledge, they don't have burgers. The fact that the chili cheese dog was a hot dog with a DROP of chili on it made this ten times worse. I definitely had my hopes up. They were definitely let down. I won't be coming back to...
