This place has mixed reviews, so I had to go and see for myself. I was greeted and shown to a seat. No menu given. She asks me what I would like to drink. I tell her. Next person arrives, sans menu and asks me what I would like to drink. I tell her, and ask for a menu, she says "we have a buffet." So I ask, "do you have a menu too?" She affirms, but doesn't offer one. So I go look at the Buffet. I decide to pass and ASK for a menu, which she brings. She was friendly enough. Most items were $1 or two more than in Petersburg. Oddly the guacamole was only $2.50 so I get some.
The guacamole was pretty good. Obviously made fresh. Obviously no mayo or anything to thin it out. I'm a purist and it had tomato, and i think cilantro should be eaten as a salad, so there wasn't enough for me... but it was good in spite of not matching my OCD demands on guacamole.
I decided on the vegetarian option of cheese enchilada, been burrito, and chili relleno. With Mexican you never know what you are going to get. I have had been burritos big enough to be shared, with lots of beans and cheese, but not here. It was about the size of one from Taco Bell, so too the enchilada and chili relleno were on the small size. The relleno had a yellow cheese. I'm not saying it was cheder or American, but it wasn't the typical white cheese that I am used to seeing. It may have been a mix of two cheeses. The Verde sauce was thick and spicy.
Overall, it was an acceptable meal. Will I go back, ...
Read moreThis is the fourth time I order hardshell beef tacos to go only to find some filled with lettuce and hardly any meat or cheese and some practically empty and only the meat with a few strands of lettuce. I have had to add my own shredded cheese to them. The first 2 times I talked to the owner each time and the following orders afterwards have been great. Then a third time hardly any lettuce in some and hardly any cheese in them and I added the shredded cheese myself when I got home. The third time I figured it was because they were busy and I didnt call to talk to the owner. Still no excuse really as food should come out the way it should be. This time I ordered the hard shell tacos at about 5:30pm. I was told that they will be ready in 10 minutes. There were 3 tables of people eating at the time and not busy. Got home and some tacos hardly any filling and no cheese. I used to be in the restaurant business and owned and managed 5 locations of italian restaurants so I know the challenges that owners are faced in running a business. I have never posted a review on any restaurant until now. I ordered weekly from this establishment...
Read moreI just moved back to the Shenandoah Valley after living in California for 30 years, and I was distraught at the thought of being unable to find high quality Mexican food of the type I'd grown addicted to and taken for granted over many years. Imagine my delight when I "discovered" Iguana Azul tucked away right around the corner from my house! Absolutely delicious food, fantastic prices, even on drinks....including Don Julio tequila and Negra Modela on tap! 🤩, and a friendly, efficient staff. You will not go wrong checking out this litlle jewel here in the Valley. I am truly stoked to have found this place and to eat and drink here, and I give it my highest recommendations for anyone seeking authentic Mexican food, high quality service, and a relaxed, fun, and family-friendly...
