Living in a place where there is not a full Ethiopian restaurant, I was thrilled to stop in at dama Ethiopian restaurant for a meal. The food was on par with Ethiopian restaurants in Berkeley, California (where there is a large Ethiopian community) that I have experienced. Very similar menu items, beautifully prepared and served traditionally. Super tasty. It is clearly a community favorite with the local Ethiopian community.
I got the vegetarian combo which is a favorite of mine and was very pleased. Portions are large and we had plenty of leftovers for the next day’s lunch. The Injera was very good and fresh. I don’t know if the Injera is made only with teff flour, in my experience Ethiopian restaurants at lower altitude will add in some wheat flour so if you are gluten-free you may want to check on that.
If you are grain free, this is probably not the spot for you since injera it is such a integral part of Ethiopian food. I guess you could order it without injera if you really wanted to. Personally as someone who tends to eat in the Paleo realm I feel OK with injera since it is fermented. They do have a very extensive vegetarian/vegan menu with meat substitutes so if you are vegetarian or vegan you probably will really like this spot. The honey wine, another favorite of mine was excellent. The coffee is extremely strong, it is not a typical American coffee so expect to try something new if you order coffee.
The only caveat to this restaurant is that it was extremely slow service. Took quite a long time to get Food to us. So if you’re in a hurry this might be a spot to wait until you...
Read moreI recently dined at JD Restaurant, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The restaurant had a cozy and welcoming ambiance, and the staff were friendly and attentive.
The menu had a wide variety of options, and I was impressed with the quality of the food. I ordered the [dish name], and it was absolutely delicious. The ingredients were fresh, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. The presentation of the dish was also impressive, making it a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds.
In addition to the delicious food, the service at JD Restaurant was exceptional. The staff were attentive and made sure that my dining experience was enjoyable. They provided recommendations for dishes and drinks and were quick to respond to any requests.
The restaurant also had a great selection of wines and cocktails, which complemented the food perfectly. The prices were reasonable for the quality of the food and service provided, making it a great value.

Read moreI went to the one on Little River Turnpike. I entered in the morning hours, and it took over 20 seconds before the waitress helped me. The ambience was all right, not fancy. Bright colorful paintings on the walls. The restaurant was clean, but it seems like it had been quickly remodeled without a lot of care.
I had ordered awaze tips with lamb in sauteed red chili pepper sauce. I unexpectedly ate with my hands. The meat portion was warm but the plate, flat bread (injera), and side dish of chopped beets, jalapenos, and onions were cold. I find that odd to eat on a cold plate. I won't eat the same dish again because the lamb was more gamy and I had a terrible breathe for the entire day. I can handle spices up to habaneros level, but wasn't my concern. The dish wasn't tasty. It was filling but not tasty.
During the eating whole process, the big waitress lack communication skills, eye contact, and attitude of willingness to please. I only tipped %15.
I wouldn't recommend and eat there again because of my experience with the waitress...
