I was so happy to finally get to come here as we are new to the area and heard great things about this restaurant. My family and I went here to celebrate my birthday last night and I can say first impression is definitely a lasting impression and we won’t be going back. We were seated within 5 mins of being there which was good. Our waitress came approximately 10mins after we were seated. She was NOT FRIENDLY! She lacked customer service, she was not attentive, she snatched stuff, shoved our salads and soups on to the tables. She did not listen; she would literally walk away in the middle of you asking her something or telling her something. She walked away when we were verifying if she heard us say that the pina colada ordered is a virgin, she said “the pina colada is coming!” My sister and I at the same time said “that is not what we asked” in which she stopped with an attitude to understand the question as it was ordered by a minor who to her may have looked older and we wanted to make sure. She went missing for 15 mins so we waited a long time just to make sure the drink did not have alcohol in it, we almost had to go looking for her when she finally popped up. She also forgot my wine; I was almost finished with dinner when she remembered. My friend had to go ask about her sushi and found it sitting at the bar and asked if it was hers and was told yes; she ended up bringing her own sushi back to the table. There was a couple sitting with us and they too had a look of astonishment to her lack of service and her terrible attitude. We all agreed that she seemed to not want to be at work last night. Looking around all the other waitresses were friendly and attentive. When our chef got done our check was on the table 5 mins later, not even asked if we needed anything else; we had barely gotten through our plates. We saw her more when she was waiting for us to pay than when she was serving us. She did asked if we needed boxes and we were trying to tell her how many we needed and she dropped a huge stack of to go boxes next to my friend. It was barely secured on the table; my friend had to grab them and make space so they would not fall. When she saw my husband reviewing the bill, she stood in front of us and waited and I felt like we were being rushed to pay. I had to check my watch to see if they were closing soon. It was an hour to closing time and two parties had just been seated.
Now the food….So the person who seated us turned out to be our chef lol the show was entertaining. He seemed confused by what the waitress wrote down so he asked us a few times to verify what we ordered. But again the presentation was entertaining. The rice was sticky and had some hard pieces. The meat was doable. The miso soup was good and we really enjoyed the shumai and gyoza that we ordered. The salad was wilted but I enjoyed the salad dressing so that was a plus. My friend’s daughter enjoyed her sushi as well. The chef was generous when we asked for teriyaki, yum yum and ginger sauce. But I still felt like he rushed through our food. When we looked over to the table next to us their food just looked more fresh and rice fluffy compared to ours. We also realized that when our chef was cleaning the grill the grease had splattered into our bowls of yum yum sauce. That was upsetting.
I think our chef was the manager, which explained why he rushed with us because then I seen him behind the bar, the register and giving orders to the waitresses.
Anyway, we did not leave a tip. We felt the grill service fee was payment enough. We spent over $300 for the 7 of us (the 7th person was a child who only ordered sushi) and felt that after our experience it was all that we were willing to pay.The waitress deserved her $0 tip!
Happy for those who had a good experience and understanding to those who didn’t. Not sure if they were short staff or not but that does not mean the waitress’s service should have been...
Read moreThe family (3 total) went for a special occasion lunch. While waiting for others to join the table, we had an opportunity to look around. The restaurant has nice decor, but appears to have been many years since any renovations. The trip to the men's restroom really showed its need for renovation. Returning from the restroom, it was surprising to see a worker removing the grease traps in the air vents, which I'm a fan of maintenance, just odd to do this with customers all around. With the drinks delivered and orders taken, the chef arrives. Both the waitress and chef were as mechanical and emotionless as you can get. It's understandable that dealing with the public isn't always enjoyable, but when the chef is to put on a cooking presentation, it would be nice to try a little. The food was pretty good, not bad, not great, so I gave it 3 out of stars. I rated the atmosphere at 2 due to the need for renovation. Service only got 1 star due to the mechanical feel and lack luster cooking presentation. With the meal complete, the bill was higher than expected, so i asked if this included, which the waitress said it did not, so i added a tip as well. After returning home, I totaled up the bill, which found that the bill amount was too high. Calling the restaurant, I was told that I had to talk to the manager about charges. After 3 calls across 3 days, I finally was able to talk with the manager. The manager explains that the bill was correct because it included the meals, drinks, and the fee for the waitress/chef. So the restaurant adds the fee of the waitress/chef onto the bill automatically, which is probably the reason they aren't concerned at how well they do their job, and then ask for a tip on top of that. Supposedly this fee is noted on the menu, but none of my family members saw it. Anyway, next time, we will drive a little farther and try a different Japanese...
Read moreI think one star is being generous. I took my sister and young nephew here to eat. I was traveling from Georgia on business and they were along for the ride. I would rate the food as mediocre at best and the service as poor. We all three ordered the hibachi chicken and we ordered a side of calamari. They served the soup and salad. The lettuce was old and wilted. It looked like it had been frozen and defrosted. I did not complain because I figured I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. When the brought the calamari. It was cold and tough, not to mention it was a very tiny portion. Next came the hibachi. I thought that at least my nephew would be entertained. Not the case. The chef looked totally upset about being there. I'm used to the chef's being lively and entertaining. Not the case here. The vegetables were undercooked. The chicken was disgusting, the noodles were completely gross, and I couldn't believe they charge extra for fried rice. And to top it all off, they charge an 18% percent gratuity. Really? Your waitress never filled my tea glass, your chef (I use that term loosely) was completely useless, and your portions were non existent. When I mentioned this to the lady who took the bill (our waitress), she just said , "my bad", on the tea and said the manager wasn't there so they couldn't do anything. (I think he was the one who seated us) My advice to management is to go eat a REAL Hibachi restaurant to see how it should be run. They may have been great before, but they are horrible now. I never write poor reviews, but this...
