Pelican's SnoBalls Newport News — Restaurant in Virginia

This place is dangerous for me. Snow cones are an absolute favourite dessert of mine and I had never eaten at a Pelican’s SnoBalls before. I chose this place because it was differentiating itself from snow cones so I had to know what it was all about. Went here on a whim not that long ago and I am SO happy I found it. The flavours are incredible, there are so many to choose from and a plethora of unique ones I’ve never seen before! Also, the quality of everything is REALLY good. I am extremely impressed with this place! The texture of the ice is perfect (the softest and fluffiest ice ever), the whipped cream is somehow the best I’ve ever had, the ‘fairy dust’ sprinkles are lovely and just the right amount of textural crunch, too. I can’t believe how good the Unicorn flavour is…normally that combo of stuff would be off putting or too sweet for me, but no, it is amazing! Pink Cotton Candy and Blue Skylite is like my childhood in a cup. I don’t even know what the skylite flavour is but I need more of it in my life. I finally got a Stuffed Unicorn SnoBall the last time I went and it actually changed me. The addition of the ice cream or soft-serve stuff inside is heavenly. I kind of go into a trance when I eat it…the flavours give me intense nostalgia for my childhood which is a lovely experience. My partner has way less of a sweet tooth than I do, and even he loves it just as much as me! It’s going to be hard to try anything new because we are hooked. If you’re in the area you have to try this place! The lady, who I believe is the owner, is very nice and is willing to answer any questions about the menu or flavours. I gave 3 stars because although our most recent visit was a bust. However the time before that was very pleasant. That time even with a single employee working, everyone was taken care of and satisfied. The young dude behind the counter was slinging some ice I tell ya!!!! But...... That was not the case at our last visit. On the hottest day yet this year there were quite a few people in line. Those people remained in line and remained in line and remained in line some more! There were two young people this time behind the counter and yet no one was being served. There was no sign of enthusiasm or hustle detected and the kids had this bewildered look on their faces like they were hired that day, given the keys and told good luck. Went there three times and all those times they closed early, if you want to be a good business make sure your time is stated right online. I did check the times online, the first time I went it was about 7:30 and they told us before we could get out the car that they were closed but continued to take a group of young guys order. I then went again and it was 8:30 on a Saturday, when stated the place closes at 9 online, and it seemed like two young boys were closing the store down and turned off all the lights.
