I have always had good experiences with this small, hometown pub but tonight — not at all. I had 3 friends and myself walk into a room of booked tables. Awesome! Went to the bar and was asked if we have a reservation. We did not. Just wanted to grab a drink & enjoy the music. We were told that we couldn’t stand at the bar. I understand if they/you all were at capacity, however, there were several couples & folks who walked in after us that were not given any grief about being there. Having been a patron for many years now, I was completely taken aback about the treatment. It’s a Friday night at a bar. If you didn’t want to have business approaching your bar, have a security guard at the front letting folks in on a flow if it was a capacity issue. It seems like we were appraised as not “the type” that matched this particular crowd of folks. We likely will never be back because of this. Thats unfortunate as I personally felt like this pub was a strong staple in Richmond’s...

+JMJ Came to the restaurant twice and both occasions were pretty special. One was for my birthday! A friend and her sons treated me to a special evening out. What was enjoyable about the visit was that there were two men offering live entertainment singing traditional Irish songs! And, I was treated to a meal of delicious fish and chips! The second visit had an unexpected experience. A friend and I showed up at the restaurant only to learn that they wouldn't be serving dinner until a few hours later. What was truly amazing was that the server was very accommodating and was able to have the kitchen prepare something for us. Though I can't recall what my friend and I ate, I will always remember the hospitality shown to us by that waitress. Lastly, I never attended their St Patrick's Day event, but I know it was well attended. The parking lot that evening would be packed!!. Rare Olde Times is a fun place and they do...

Everything was so wonderful I don't even know where to start. I got the Drunken Pig which was quite possibly the juiciest pork I've ever had. It melted in my mouth and the fries that came with it were well seasoned and too yummy to stop eating even though I was trying to save room for dessert. The bread pudding was so exceptional I would come back over and over just for that if I was a local. All the drinks were good but the Hot Toddy with the bread pudding was the perfect end to an incredible meal. Honestly it would be a good beginning too. The service was wonderful, very attentive. We actually had 3 additional people besides our waitress check in on the table while we were there. Not only did so many people seem to know each other which gave it a friendly neighborhood bar feel, but everyone talked to us like we were friends. I will definitely be visiting again next time I am...

I came in for brunch this morning and ordered the full Irish breakfast with no mushrooms. The server thoughtfully asked if I’d like extra tomatoes instead, and I said yes. When my order arrived, I cut into the white pudding only to find they were ice cold in the middle. The server apologized and promptly brought me fresh ones that were heated through. However, I noticed I only received two slices of tomato, so I’m not sure where the “extra” went. Also, they were out of rashers and didn’t have any wheat bread, which might be related to the recent water crisis. Overall, the meal wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t anything remarkable either. I’m considering returning to try their non-brunch menu to see if it’s better. For now, a mixed experience.

Went on a quiet Tuesday and bellied up to the bar. Gibby and Andy were both welcoming and honestly nice guys. I had corned beef and cabbage - which reminded me of growing up, when Grandma Ryan would make that for supper for us rug rats. They guys were nice enough to change the TV to a game I wanted to watch. Super welcoming, friendly environment with good sports and delicious food - winner! I haven’t even gotten. To the whiskey selection which was OUTSTANDING - lots of brands I knew and liked plus a TON I had to Google. Harp on tap was a huge plus, as I forgot how much harp rocks in the hot weather. 6* experienced - all great stuff.

This pub is a "rare" find that will teleport you to the "olde times". I'd visited on Saint Patrick's Day and was pleasantly surprised by the crowd, ambience, music and energy. It felt more like a local Irish festival and less like a bar. The live music was great, and people were singing and dancing along. I enjoyed a couple of drinks and their fish and chips, although it'd have been great if the fish was less oily. All in all, I'd highly recommend visiting.
