We're picky about Mexican food, as the best that we eat is usually at our own house, having Mexican roots and having lived in Mexico. The restaurant is new; the first visit was perfect; the second, one item was forgotten (the waiter compensated for it) and the tortillas were cold on the first round. Our favorite tacos were shrimp; our friend loved the ground meat tacos on a crispy tortillas. And while a churro doughnut sounds like a peculiar dessert, it delivers in terms of flavor. We'll keep going back as long as it is as good as it is. A new, fresh, bright space!
We have been back several times and here is my update. The good, again: The shrimp tacos. They are not stingy with the shrimp and they don't overpower them with spices. Avocado atop those tacos makes them sublime. Unfortunately, one time that we went, they were presented without avocado: A huge disappointment. They should have told us! They reduced the price by thirty cents, but it doesn't make up for lack of quality.
We accidentally ordered the fish tacos the other day. I say accidentally, because we arrived so very hungry that I misspoke. The waiter offered to exchange them for shrimp tacos when I asked about the avocado, but it was my mistake, so we ate them. I found the fish overly fried and loaded with French dressing or maybe it was chipotle mayonnaise. In any case, it didn't augment the experience. I scraped off what I could.
The restaurant could improve by offering homemade salsas at the table. The bottled ones are mediocre and only the green habanera remains of the two habaneras: The red one has disappeared. The chorizo was way too salty, according to my husband.
Finally, service is very uneven. The first time we went, shortly after they opened, it was wonderful. On another occasion, the employee told us the only way that we could order was via their app. The last time, the employee came to our table. In any case, apparently the crunchy ground meat tortilla is good. The shrimp tacos have remained so. We'll continue to go back until they disappoint. That is when we abandon a...
Read moreMeh. Walked in from Washington Boulevard doors. My first impression was why are people eating in the hallway? The pillars painted in a bright meconium green were not what I wanted to be looking at while I was eating. The lighting was artistic and clever, though. We sat at a two top that wasn't really cramped, but it felt like it. The order process is through a QR code. Because of that we didn't really feel greeted by anyone who worked there. We ordered a drink two waters, guacamole with chips and a variety of tacos. The margarita came first. It was delicious, but we're not sure if there was any alcohol in it because we didn't feel any effects. Guacamole was pretty good but cost twice as much as one taco and there was a large chunk of really firm avocado in it. So at least we know it was fresh. The tacos arrived all at once, and we had to ask for the waters that we ordered through the app at that point. Shrimp tacos and the Carne Asada were delicious. The corn tortillas were fresh and firm enough to hold their contents. Fish taco wasn't very good and the shredded chicken was dry with a lot of spice, but not much flavor. We were excited to have a new taco place in the neighborhood but they're going to have to up their game if they want to compete with District Taco and Bar Taco.
Ok, tried again. Came in from the back and the windows at the bar were open to a lovely spring day. Had a greeting from people soon upon arrival, the staff was attentive and friendly. Ordered the Tat-chos (tater tots covered like nachos), which hit the spot. Didn't order drinks. The tacos were about the same, carne asada maybe not as good as the first time. The root veggie salad had few root veggies in it and the enchilada wasn't heated all the...
Read moreI love this place! Tried the brunch with my family and we were amazed at how good it was. Had no idea what a waffle-wich was, but glad we tried it anyway, and in case you are wondering, it is kind of like a waffle sandwich. They have sweet and savory fillings. We are going for the pancake tacos next. They are opening at 10am now on the weekend for brunch also, which is great.
We always love Westover taco for lunch. They have lunch specials and are really fast. I don't know what has been going on lately, but the food keeps getting better and better. It was already great. You can tell from how busy it is lately, but we always find a table.
They have large garage doors that make you feel like you are outside without having to be. So bright and open. The tables hold 6 people which is great for us, but they have let us sit there with only two, so if you want a window seat grab it!
The neighborhood is great. Right next to Ayer's Hardware and Toby's Ice Cream. There is a parking lot out back if you can't find a spot in the front and it is easier to see from there.
They do happy hour and daily specials. The bartenders are great. Steven takes care of us at lunch often and Nick and Ashlyn on the weekend. Kids also eat free on Sunday.
Their house margarita is delicious and they make the sour mix in house. They have so many tequilas to choose from if you like to upgrade, also. The meats are all slow roasted and it shows. The tortillas are made in house daily. This place is just fresh and delicious. You...
