Our reservation was at 2:00 PM and they were still setting up the dining room as the previous party ran late (understandable). All the 2:00 parties who were congregating in the door/dining room were then seated and our tea order was taken (we were told they were out of quiche). At 2:45 we had to remind a staff member no one had taken our order (frustrating as it seemed every other table had some sort of food). The waitress had to ask us twice for our order, as she forgot and they were probably short staffed. The waitress then said they only had blueberry scones (not even a plain scone was available). At 3:14 we got our first bite of food (soup) and we shared our experience with a male staff member who was walking around checking in on guests. We were told they were backed up in kitchen and the gentleman apologized for our displeasure and stated a discount would be given. At 3:22 we finally got our tier of food however the raspberry white chocolate scones (not blueberry) were raw in the middle (despite being warm). When we brought this to the man’s attention, he assured us they were cooked but moist due to the raspberries (I beg to differ). He then offered a plain scone (which we were told they did not have) as a replacement. The $82 meal was discounted to $69 but we should have left after being ignored for nearly an hour and paid the $30 no show fee. They should not mix “Princess tea” with “regular tea” guests- their Princess Jasmine was an unconvincing Caucasian female who should've worn a black wig. Bottom line: drive to Petersburg, Va to the BLUE WILLOW TEA ROOM for an authentic tea experience. (The attached photo is of their tea cups that their designer had picked out- I had inquired about them because to me it gives off...
Read moreThe service was amazing especially considering there was 2 wait staff and we were outside for a mystery dinner! They were very attentive to us and made us feel welcomed and unrushed! The food was much better than I espected as I was there for the ambiance and recieved so much more! Jimmy, the owner, greeted and/or spoke with each guest which is impressive. The murder mystery was a wonderful "staycation" get away for me and my mom, which we both needed!
This was the second time I had been there. The first time, my friend and I were treated like royalty by staff - I feel like a bad guest because I can not remember his name! There was nothing we asked for and didn't recieve and they were not out of anything.
I hope to see more community programs here like the murder mystery dinner. I would love to see a tea party for adults. You know - hats, gloves, dresses or collared shirt and tie with danty flowers on the...
Read moreThe restaurant is cute albeit a bit dated and run down. The server was nice and attentive. I would never go back though because the food just wasn’t very good. We ordered two quiches that were completely unpalatable. We took one bite and couldn’t continue. They also smelled disgusting as if they had been made with rotten, moldy cheese. We were refunded for the quiche but what remained just wasn’t worth the money. The cream for the scones was oddly sweet, nothing that would ever be served with a scone at a legit high tea. The sandwiches were okay, not the soft bread that is typically served but were edible. The tea was served with cream and honey, not the sugar cubes of a traditional tea which I found weird. The desserts were okay. Overall, the tea was mediocre and way overpriced for what you are served and the disgusting quiche made me never want to eat egg again. I would...
