After living in Vista for almost 5 years, my bf and I finally checked this place out.
We walked over and there were no diners. That was fine with us. We immediately noticed that the atmosphere was dim which I liked because it made me feel cozy, but my bf wanted more light.
We were integrated greeted walking through the door and were sat. The nice lady came to us with menus and utensils and didn't rush us with ordering. I greatly appreciated that.
When she came back, we were ready with our orders: Rogan Josh - spice level of 3, mango Lassi, chicken Masala - spice level of 5, garlic Naan, basamti rice, stuffed paratha, and mixed pickles.
Our food was brought by the nice lady and a girl and every interaction was pleasant. I have a big problem with thanking people every time they drop something off and they didn't seem annoyed with me.
I tried everything but the pickles because in general, I don't eat those. My bf gave those a try but didn't care for them much. He didn't say they were bad, but he just didn't like them. Everything else was delicious and we devoured our food.
I don't eat a lot of Indian food, but the food was great! Nothing was really spicy which was great for me. All the flavors were balanced, nothing was overpowering. The sauce is to die for.
There was even 2 customers who came in when we were dining and one said they came from Carlsbad just to get this food.
I'm happy that we tried this place and...
Read moreAs a student I lived on the curry mile in Manchester England and my first career was as a pharma sales rep with a 50% Indian customer sales base. Needless to say I feel I am somewhere between an aficionado and connoisseur of curry. After living in the U.S. for the last 10 years I have only had disappointment when trying Indian restaurants. When I go home my first stop is normally my mate Patel's mum's house then off that evening to my local and then the curry house. Now I have found Bombay Cafe I don't need to go home any more. The Papadam and tray were good, and prompt. The Samosa's and Pakoras were good. I love hot food, I went for the Lamb Vindaloo Desi style. She explained that Desi there was not that hot. It was not I think they have calmed things down for the local customers. However the spice and taste was delicious. The special Nan was great, as good as I have had and the Chicken Tika Masala was excellent, a little on the sweet side for me but very tasty all the same. On the whole it was an excellent Indian experience and a lot better than I have had for a long time. Service - Our service was pretty good, but it was empty (early Tuesday evening) so they didn't have much excuse. The lady was very friiedly and helpful at explaining the spices to my chef girlfriend. However it's not fine dinning so if you are going there for fine dining you are in the wrong place. It's a...
Read moreWe were introduced to Bombay Cafe back in 2002 by a local Vista couple. Ever since it has been love at first bite. We are "regulars" now, and try to splurge every month or so and treat ourselves to this wonderful treat. My personal favorite is the Paneer Masala. The sauce that goes with it is just exquisite. I order several extra orders of Naan (and I can't understand the one persons comment about the Naan not being good, but I guess such is the nature of taste, but I find the Naan and everything Bombay Cafe puts on the table just absolutely delicious) and love dipping the Naan in the Paneer Masala sauce. I don't know what the ingredients are, but anything that tastes that good has got to be absolutely terrible for you! Sweet, creamy, and really spicy (in the flavorful sense of the word). Also they are happy to adjust your "spiciness" level of most of the dishes. We had a joke for a while that we thought they were spiking the sauce with opium or something, because it was just too good to be "normal". When we moved back to Pennsylvania we REALLY missed Bombay Cafe and the owner's friendly smile and greeting. We tried to find Naan and Paneer Masalla something like it at other restaurants but were also...
