Update 10.29.24 Lunch/breakfast
Diane had the Lind breakfast and I had the chicken tenders. Of course everything was fresh and tasty. The tenders were lightly breaded and juicy and the seasoned fries were tasty and crispy. Once again highly recommended two-thumbs up 👍👍
Update 3.2.21 So we had lunch at the Magnolia Table in Waco Texas and once again enjoyed ourselves. I had the table plate (or appetizer) eggs and bacon, Deviled eggs and maple bacon. Great idea for breakfast or lunch and everything was really good. The bacon is not to sweet but addictive. Diane had a simple breakfast taco which she thoroughly enjoyed. After that we picked up two "Silo" cookies for this evening. Always love the cookies. 😁 Once again, two thumbs up 👍👍 Update 9.26.19 Diane had the French toast and I had the eggs Benedict. Everything was good except the hollandaise sauce that had way to much lemon. Still, it was good fresh food and it always makes my lady smile to come here. Diane got zucchini bread to go (yum) and I also enjoyed the Texas pecan coffee. Recommended! Stopped with my folks for lunch. Diane and I have been here before and we loved it. We ordered a bread basket and fries green tomatoes for appetizers, the basket had zucchini bread, blueberry muffin, croissant and roll. The breads were all very good but I think the zucchini bread was tops. My dad loves fried green tomatoes and hardly any restaurants do them so we were excited to try them. Not a winner. The tomatoes were good but the breading ended up being chewy and tough. Sadly he ate one and that was it. The server was quick to remove them from our bill and apologize when she was told. No hassle just good service. Diane had the breakfast with eggs, avocado, heirloom tomatoes, and salad. Enjoyed it all. My mom had a platter of three finger sandwiches (chicken salad, tuna salad and pimento cheese) along with soup. We didn't discuss it much but she said it was all good. My dad had the chili dog with potato salad and chips. The only problem was the chili had beans and that's a big no-no in chili for him. Having said that, he said the flavor was good and he thoroughly enjoyed it. The chips are kettle chips and he loved those also. I had the chicken that I've had before so I knew I would enjoy it. Love the walnuts and grapes and the croissant was fresh and buttery. I also snuck a pic of the cheeseburger on the next table because it looked so good. Overall we look forward to...
Read moreI was so excited to visit Magnolia Table for so many reasons, but the overall experience was a letdown. We tried to call ahead to get some information regarding wait times, and after the typical "hey, how are you", the hospitality was gone. The person on the phone interrupted to emphasize that reservations could only be made online and all but hung up, even when we were asking about large reservations not being an option online. Upon arrival, the first person we spoke to said we shouldn't expect a table since it was so close to closing (it was almost 2 and they close at 3), and that we were more than welcome to wait but we might not be seated - and none of this was said in a pleasant manner at all. In fact, as soon as she finished speaking, she turned and left the hostess stand. A second person took note of a special needs child with us and asked if we would be comfortable at a community table that was available. We accepted that offer - and that was the most pleasant interaction of the entire visit. The server for our table was short with us and not very polite at all, even to the point of sighing and interrupting when we had questions. She rushed us to order, but it was only 2:05, and the kitchen didn't close til 3. Our water pitchers for the table were never refilled during the hour we sat, and we were a party of seven with 5 of us drinking only water. One person ordered coffee and a refill was not offered until after the meal, but we never got that refill because they dumped the coffee right at 3. The menu had an eggs benedict option, which was served with Jo's biscuits, and it was excellent. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the biscuits were buttery and warm, and it was an fantastic meal. The restaurant was clean, and the entire place was beautiful and inviting, but all of that is overshadowed by the lack of hospitality in a place which claims to be very hospitable. If you're looking for reasons to go, there are a few. If you're on the fence about going, there are plenty of reasons not to go. Ultimately, I do not think I would go back. I understand closing times can be stressful and the staff can be exhausted, but everyone of us at that table has worked in the field of hospitality and all of us were completely shocked by the service, not just to us but to the tables around us. I sincerely hope this experience was a fluke and not the norm, because the food would be worth a...
Read moreIt’s an honor to review the epitome of all breakfast restaurants. The amount of care, intention, thought, etc. that went into this restaurant is overwhelming from the design to the basic ingredients used. I can’t imagine the pressure the Gaines have on them to get it right. It’s their name at stake.
We had set a reservation 30 days in advance per our friends’ recommendation. Received the confirmation text a few days before. When we got there, the outdoor hostess said it was not in their system. Usually not a big deal, but there was no apology or empathy. And, given the reality of the scenario, they couldn’t do anything to get us in, so we waited (thankfully only) 30 minutes for a table we used their system to reserve. Our first interaction with the Magnolia brand was with the hostess, and it was sloppy.
Everything from there changed once we were in the restaurant. We tried 5 of the juices and all of them were beyond outstanding. I really couldn’t pick a favorite.
Coffee left a a problem for me because I can’t do white sugar without getting a headache, but I just can’t do black coffee. I usually do sugar in the raw, but they didn’t have any. Thought this was an interesting breakdown in the Magnolia system. They have it at their coffee shop at the silos where they sell (I imagine) the same lattes, etc., but then don’t offer it in their restaurant. I can see how Jo would want only white sugar from a table aesthetics position, but I think they should have it available upon request.
The biscuits were very good. I like the cornmeal? flavor they carry. The strawberry butter is good, but just a little too light for me. I wish they had a jam as well or a heavier butter. Still good though.
I had the tacos fully loaded. 100% outstanding. The salsa was a great recipe as well. My wife got the biscuits and gravy and was overly-satisfied. The bacon was incredible quality, but if I had to chose, go sausage. It’s to die for.
The tots were a neat creation as well. I added them to my tacos and it made for a nice tough.
The only food we really didn’t care for were the lemon lavender doughnuts. They were very nice, but we just didn’t care for them. If you like lemon, you’ll be very pleased.
All in all, beautifully done. I wish we could copy and paste 95% of this...
