Summer Palace Restaurant — Restaurant in Waco

Where do I even start? right of the bat walking in, i took one look around and realized this place was not the quality i was expecting from reading various good reviews. yet i was still willing to give the place a chance, boy what a giant mistake... This establishment was among the worst food i have ever eaten. I invite you to continue reading as i break down each nit picky part of my experience, from the walk in to the puking. If you care about your health, go 2 miles down the road to Vegas Buffet, they are a world better!

The Selection. The amount of food itself was mediocre, there were the normal expectation of a buffet, but still genuinely lacking. No sushi to speak of, yet they have wasabi and ginger available. The placement of food itself was strange, primarily the fruit bar was in the center no where near the deserts area. the food was warm but not hot.

The Atmosphere. about 80 degrees F and very humid. Smells like leftovers, The booth seating has no padding to speak of. On par with a park bench. No audible music. The cleanliness of the carpet is...unacceptable. Fruit flies...

The Food Presentation. The bins remained stocked as they should. Frog legs were sitting in a foggy bath of water. Crab legs were also floating in their respective bath of repugnant milky water. The fried rice was filled with burnt eggs. BBQ pork bin contained soggy pork, while the bin was filled to the brim with water and bbq sauce.

The Taste. Extensive use of grease in seemingly all foods. Fried rice tasted like it was bought from a store and re fried, tasted like plastic. The sesame chicken was disgusting and gummy, way too sweet, genuinely distasteful. The Lomein was god Awful, I could have found better quality in a bag of dog food. Teriyaki Chicken was not edible. Sugar donuts where balls of grease. The Tiramisu cake was store bought. Don't even tell me otherwise. Fruit Flies all over the fruit, so I did not have the pleasure of a tasting any. Best thing I had was the ice water.

The service was a Joke! when I finally asked for my bill the server by the name of "Bos" handed me my bill and just stood there waiting for me to get out my money, I looked at him and he said "You can pay now", to which I replied "you can go ill have it ready in a moment" he then went to say "NO, YOU PAY ME", I told the guy again I would have it ready in a moment and he finally left. I should not have to dismiss a waiter two times, there is no reason to watch me pull money out of my wallet. I regret even the 4.5% tip I gave Bos despite his little stunt. Got up and left as soon as i could. We were only there for 20 minutes before it was just to much for us to stay any longer.

Upon leaving, I promptly went to sonic to buy me, and my now very sick girlfriend, something to wash the taste out of our mouths.

Got home and the puking commenced.

I would not recommend this establishment to anyone who cares for their own well being. You could not pay me to walk back into this place,...

I got a to go order . The ladies were not friendly and reminded me that no seafood in my order I had . Again she said extra cost seafood not included. I had just basic Chinese food and soup . My total was $17. and change . I commented about how we didn't get as bad weather as predicted . The lady said we were not talking to you she was talking to me . WOW I just looked . And she pushed my bag with the order and never said anything else . I asked if the ice cream cones were included in the buffet she said yes you want a cone it be $2. dollars I turned and walked out . Never have I had such rude person behind the cash register and she definitely does not need to be there . I rate poor customer service and poor attitude also the way she pushed my bag with my order I rate poor poor for customer satisfaction. The man there has always been behind the register . He is very friendly very polite and he has always had great customer service and speaks to customers . But the lady with the very thin lips that had a attitude and could care less if I ate there or not . She was probably happy to see me leave without eating or placing an order by her attitude when she said she is speaking to me not you . She is not a people person and food was not as good . This buffet gets 1 star because I could not give 0. My family and I have lived in hewitt 5 years, this buffet used to be great.. and busy. Now for dinner rush 5pm they've got less than half full lobby. All food was cold and my wife and i complained, they took the food to the back and simply reheated it an brought it back out. The shrimp in every pan that involved shrimp had not been deveined, the spicey Kobari pan I'd waited 40 minutes for came out raw and uncooked (It was pink outside so i checked the inside). I took the manager around to show her the cold food, raw meats, and non-deveined shrimp in all pans. The response I got was her yelling at the employee who'd given my kids and I dirty looks the whole visit, then telling me they order the shrimp that's just how it comes.. they left the raw meat on buffet for me to see a lady serving it to her children 10 minutes later. Disgusting place, I heard a scream from the kitchen and as a general manager in the restaurant industry myself I do say that is a bad sign of what's going on behind closed doors.
