Yesterday, I visited this place and ordered the knife-cut noodles, and honestly, they were pretty good! I was thinking that I would like to revisit this place to try their Hainan chicken rice one day, if it weren't for something that happened towards the end of the meal.
At some point, I felt something brush under my chin. I assumed it was just a stray hair, so I didn't think much of it. But then, a few minutes later, I felt something crawling on my arm, and when I looked, there was a COCKROACH on my elbow. I shook it off, it fell to the floor, and I was out of that shop within minutes.
I told the guy at the register about it, and he told me that they've already killed a bunch of them and offered a free drink to me as an apology. I was still charged for the meal, and though I willingly paid for it at the time (I have a bit of a fear of cockroaches so I was too focused on getting out of there to think if I should even be doing that), I think in hindsight I shouldn't have had to pay for potentially contaminated food?
More importantly though, if a cockroach had managed to climb its way onto a customer, just how many are there hidden in this restaurant? How many are in the kitchen? How many have the staff already killed? How would the public know if the food they're eating isn't contaminated? I saw the A letter grade from the health department on the wall, but that clearly isn't representative of how sanitary this place really is.
It's such a shame. Before that cockroach got on me, I really was thinking I'd be a return customer, but I'd rather get my noodles and chicken rice from a place that I trust...
Read moreThis is what I would consider a hole in the wall for the area. The location is in a small plaza that is tucked away along a main road.
The interior is small and there isn't much seating so you might either be prepared to wait a decent amount of time or order online using the food apps for take out.
What I think they're famous for is the Hainan Chicken Rice, which was pretty good. For me, a plus that they deboned the chicken, so you only have to dip into the sauce and eat with the rice. For the options around here, this place serves a decent Hainan Chicken Rice.
The other two dishes were kinda so so, the potato noodles only come the noodles. Given the price, I would've expected something more. If you wanted any other sustenance in the fish, you'll have to pay for addon, making this dish highly not worth.
The other noodle dish had more substance, but given the price of the noodle and the rice, I'll choose the rice 100%...
