China Express — Restaurant in Walterboro

My experience with the Owner Operator or Guy at the counter of the Chinese Express was very unpleasant and unprofessional! I called ahead of time to place an order for my daughter and upon my arrival the food was not ready. He proceed to tell me that I placed the order 2 Hours ago which was clearly not true. Then he told me to look at my phone to check and see. Then he said where did you call? I politely said that my phone was in my car and I called here. He continued to grumble on about it so when I did go (after waiting for them to prepare the food again) to the car I looked and it was only 38 minutes prior when I called. I originally came 20 minutes after I called to see the note on the door that says "cash only" which was not mentioned when I placed the order, so I had to go to the bank to get cash back from my card which took approximately 15 minutes or so. On top of all that my daughter's order was inaccurate. Being that is was incorrect, I think he must have had me confused with someone else. My daughter likes the place and normally she doesn't have any problems with the lady who is normally at the counter, however I work in Charleston and rarely eat Chinese food in Walterboro, but after the experience I had at the Chinese Express in Walterboro S.C. I don't think me or my family will be eating there ever again! Deal breaker ...rudely and sadly absolutely NO customer service and incorrect food. Never Again! I have been using Walterboro as a stop on the way South for the winter and on the way back North for about a week each way. I have been exploring Walterboro since 2006. Love it here. Being a Chinese food fan I have avoided Chinese Buffets first and Chinese Takeout second because they are usually mediocre at best. But in the last few years I discovered a Chinese Takeout that rivals the best Chinese Restaurants in Pittsburgh that I drive over 100 miles to visit and a great Chinese Buffet in Gainsville. So I tried China Express today. I bought Orange Chicken and my wife bought Honey Chicken. So as not to ruin the suspense let me tell you that after few bites we just threw it away. The chicken was a hard lump. Was it boiled somehow? What it was not was a deep fried fresh piece of chicken, tender inside with a crisp coating on the outside. It should have come with white rice and maybe a fried rice upcharge option. The ham fried rice that it came with was dry and flavorless. And way too much to compensate for the chicken being way too little. Not that it mattered. And the chicken wing buried in the rice - what nonsense. I have no comment about owners being rude or pushy or not, or prices, it's about the food! And the place is busy, Walterboro, look around, if you are eating this stuff you are encouraging, supporting lousy food. Again I threw nearly $20 of food away in less than 5 minutes which...

It's been a while since i ordered from here. i went today in the afternoon and got a few plates. One of the plates i ordered, i asked to have pork fried rice instead of ham. Come to find out, they charge me another portion side instead of the regular combo plate. The combo plate was 10.50$ (including rice)and a PORTION of rice itself is 7$. They charged me for that 7$ extra, when I came back in thinking they misheard me. Yeah nope, they got mad at me for even asking about the extra charge saying "cuase you asked for the pork instead of ham, people usually get the ham so we sticked with it for the combo's". Let alone I've never had a problem in the past about asking for different rice. I asked "why wasnt i told this before suggestion the change? No asking if it's okay or anything, nothing." Though I wasn't overreacting about this they still had an attitude with me, all they suggested was to get the regular ham rice and the money back(7$)OR to keep it and have a free SMALL ham fried as the inconvenience.(better than nothing ig🤷‍♀️) They didn't say sorry in no way. Me not being an absolute confrontational person felt embarrassed about everything and wasn't even my fault. Though the food is good itself, the atmosphere/reputation isn't what it used to be since the original owner passed. It's sad to say things are slowly going downhill since then.
