I was recommended to go to Carl's Subs. I was greeted by a polite young lady who proceeded to ask what I would like. I asked for a LG steak & cheese sub with mayo, grilled onions and asked if they had a sour sauce of any kind. She proceeded to mention peppers and a hot sauce that didn't sound like anything i wanted on my sub, to which I responded "no, I'll pass on that " Got my sub with super fast service, said "Thank you and thank the chef too" got in my car and went on my way. Carl's was highly recommended so I couldn't wait to dig in. When I unwrapped my sub it had pepers and some kind of sauce I didn't order. The sub looked good but it wasn't what I ordered. So I drove back to Carl's, walked in, and proceeded to talk with the young lady who took my order, explained what was on my sub, I figured it was a simple misunderstanding, I said "it's not a problem these things happen" I was then approached by a young kid who took over the situation by asking me what happened. He was looking for my order on their system which he was not having any luck finding, kept repeating questions that i had already answered and at this point the young lady was explaining to this kid that I had ordered the sub this way. I then tried to recap to her the conversation we had about the word "agrio" which means sour, when a spanish speaking gentleman standing behind her said i did ask for those toppings. I just wanted to eat, i was starving and wanted them to rectify this error. I didn't understand why they would believe that i would order a sub this way, leave, come back with the sub not even touched, give myself a headache while starving. I was then offered, the sub i brought back, a refund and that i would get a free sub on my next visit. Their conversation was all over the place but not once did they mention that the grill was being cleaned and they were shutting down. It was only about 8pm and according to the website, Carl's closes @ 9pm on Thursdays. So i said "are you guys crazy, what are you gonna do?" to which the young kid responded "you're going to get a refund and don't come here disrespecting calling me crazy" The kid took this comment personally and disregarded the situation at hand. As he was giving me my refund, I could hear the young girl saying "yeah, just give him his money, forget the sub and card" As if i did something wrong. I was angry, but confused. For the record, this review has nothing to do with Carl's food (I didn't get to try any of it) ONLY, the front staff and how they handled a simple...
Read moreSo I worked at Carl's from 2019-2021. Many of the customers will remember me. I loved our customers so much and I've never worked at place where so many people were so happy and enthusiastic to be there. It was awesome! And I knew that enthusiasm because I had been a customer there for years before working there. And I also genuinely love the owner- Eric. He's a person that really, really cares about & takes care of the people that work for him.
Unfortunately, we had to raise to price the of subs by $2.00 when the pandemic began. But, I can tell you that the beef producers MORE THAN DOUBLED the price they charged us. We still actively searched out the best meat we could get, and we absolutely made sandwiches of the same size and quality as we always did.
I don't work here anymore, but I'm legitimately proud of the time I spent there and the quality of food we made for people. The people I worked with that are still there are wonderful humans that I'm glad I met.
And Eric Lando, the owner, is one of the best humans I've ever met or worked for. A really, really good guy that stays in the lives and mentors the people that work for him.
And also- Carl's sandwiches are legitimately the best ever. Every sauce is homemade. The beef is the ABSOLUTE BEST AVAILABLE. The portions are MASSIVE.
Customers from a few years ago will definitely remember me and I miss you all! You guys...
Read moreCarl's is the what you get when you cross the idioms 'hole in the wall' and 'greasy spoon.' With the entirety of the interior being the kitchen and only a few square feet to stand when ordering or waiting to pick up, Carl's is tucked away between a house and an auto body shop.
There aren't any of the modern conveniences of ordering online or delivery that one might expect from a sub shop nowadays, but their subs make the trip worth it. Don't come here expecting to eat healthy because you'll leave disappointed and with an empty stomach.
When you order a Carl's steak sub what you get is a sandwich of champions that's bigger than your eyes and your stomach. Far from an intricate culinary creation it's a monstrosity with pounds of layered cheese, sauce, and — most importantly — meat, all dripping in oil and fat just inviting you to gorge yourself.
You'll begin eating and before you know you've already conquered half of the beast. and you'll decide to wait for a few minutes to continue. You'll look down at this abomination and think to yourself "I don't think I can do it." But you've already come this far so you can't let it defeat you. You're going to finish it, and you know why? Because this is a sandwich of champions, and you're a champion.
(Their burrito bowls and chicken subs are pretty good too, but that's not really why you came to...
