We normally visit this place for celebrations after work due to accomplishments, fare wells, etc. We (3 of us) were in there last week to celebrate a win and secured a table. We ordered apps and drinks. We then notice that 3 other people from our company where also there, sitting outside (most likely because the hostess probably rudely told them (as she told us) that tables are reserved for people that order food from the menu, not sure why assumed that if we are having drinks we're not ordering food but that's another issue!).
We asked our co-workers to join us at our table which had 4 chairs so we needed 2 more. I politely asked the hostess for 2 more chairs for our friends to be able to join us; to which she point blank stated to me, verbatim "we don't have extra chairs". ?!?!? what? you don't have extra chairs? First off, I wasn't asking for extra chairs, I was informing you that our party had grown than originally planned and we required more space. The way I see it one of two things should have happened (instead of the "we don't have extra chairs" comment): a. Walk around the restaurant and find two chairs (there were many open and available from what we saw) or b. Take my name and put me on the list for a table for 6 when it became available. Which there were some that were available we walked around and verified. But even if there weren't the hostess should have taken my name and put us on a waiting list.
Needless to say we all decided to cut our losses and leave the place. And here is the kicker: I actually went up to the hostess (Olivia) and explained to her how I felt the two options I explained above would have been more appropriate to which she again said "we don't have extra chairs" and remained silent. Even after explaining to her that, if she at least recognizes that those two options would have been more appropriate than the one she gave me (now for the second time) we would be satisfied. Even the threat of contacting the establishment's General Manager didn't seem to matter to this hostess or the other lady that also in the front desk there.
So, given the above, I can only assume that this behavior is tolerated by management and this is why they were so cocky and rude.
Overall I would say if you want to go somewhere to have a good time and celebrate, choose a different spot, THIS AIN'T...
Read moreAfter a very historical day in Concord, I decided to try this Restraunt in my hotel (The Best Western Plus). I came through the hotel entrance off the lobby. Large menu boards hang outside the dividing door. I entered and read signage saying you need to go to the host station. I had to navigate myself to the host station in the front by passing seating and a crowded bar. The hostess said the bar was open and sat myself. So, I found myself a high back chair to sit. I noticed most patrons were not guests at the hotel! The bar back gave me a drink menu, a regular menu, and distinct drink menu was already at my seat. I opted for a build you own non alcohol drink. My base was an ice-tea with black cherry flavoring ($6 and comes with "one refill"). The drink had a toooooonnn of ice. Essentially you are buying 2 drinks as $3.00 seems to be the price at other locations. My drink was bought and I ordered a cup of clam chowder. I waited about 20 minutes before it was brought out. It was not overly warm (the soup must have been sitting because a little film was forming). The cuppa was an A- average. The bacon took away from the subtle sweetness of a clam in a chowder. The broth creamy and typical of a NE style. There was carrot and celery and do not remember the taste of potato. It was served with proper oyster crackers. ($6) Next I ordered a refill on my drink (Peach Ice Tea. Then I selected an entree. It was a deluxe grilled cheese. Beautiful grilled thick cut bread had sandwiched between brie and American with spinach and fig jam (very very little jam). The sandwich was really good (A). The fries were average unseasoned (A-). The bar tender was very attentive and friendly. Was just talkative enough. This place was an surprise Restraunt in a hotel. My bill came to $32 and I added $10 tip because the whole experience...
Read moreBizarre restaurant that is not ADA-friendly. I stayed at the hotel attached to this restaurant a few years ago with my service dog to see a doctor at Mass General Hospital for my rare, life-threatening endocrine disease. I tried to eat at this restaurant but the manager berated me about having my service dog with me insisting I would bother everyone else and that I was not being “conscientious of others.” I told her unless someone has a serious allergy to dogs (in which case they would be accommodated too and they would be moved away from my dog, per the law), I was allowed to eat anywhere in the restaurant. The hostess giggled and said “actually I’m allergic to dogs and I forgot my inhaler today!” Well if you have that serious of an allergy 1, you can be accommodated too and have a different waiter serve me, 2, you should bring your emergency meds everywhere just as I have to for my emergent condition, and 3, YOU SHOULDN’T BEND DOWN AND PET MY SERVICE DOG AS YOU DID. It was only after my mother said we would sue them if they didn’t seat us, at which point they said, “I guess we’ll put you in the back.” No. Per the ADA, you cannot segregate. Eventually we got our point across and were adequately seated but it took roughly 20 minutes of argument with the manager...
