I give this place an A+ for atmosphere, with great music at just the right volume and ping-pong tables and other fun games to freely play, but a C- for the food that I had tonight. I ordered the Mediterranean salad. It had great ingredients, but had too much dressing, and was well mixed together and presented as a soggy, wilted mess. They had a great idea of smearing hummus and a balsamic glaze along the side of the bowl, an effect that was diminished by the fact that the bowl is compressed paper pulp and the fork is plastic. My husband had the macaroni and cheese with short ribs. The ribs were just OK- not bad and not great, sort of a flabby version of braised short ribs. The macaroni and cheese was ok too, but definitely not distinguished. An interesting feature of the place is a wall with a long row of taps where you can pour your own beer and wine, using a "tab" card which you pay off before you leave. The offerings were good beers and wine. I completely downgrade the place for the use of plastic cutlery. They clearly have the means for washing the glasses that they use for the beer and wine. How difficult would it be to eliminate the plastic forks? There's no excuse in this era for a restaurant creating a business model that adds so much plastic to our waste stream. I watched the open kitchen preparing other dishes. I saw a salad being made that retained its fresh, crispy lettuce and a chicken dish that looked plain, but came with a few sauces on the side. Craft Food Hall's claim to greatness is their use of very fast methods for preparing your finished dish. The proteins (chicken, short ribs, hambugers etc.) are kept at serving temperature in sealed plastic bags in a warm bath (Sous Vide) They slide your protein out of the plastic bag and run it under a heating element to finish it off. Similarly, their pizza, which they call by the trendy name of "Street Pizza" seems to be made from a pre-cooked crust. Per your order, they add the cheese and the toppings and run it under the heating element to cook the toppings. The crust looked flaky, and nearby diners said it was good. It looks to me like pizza lends itself better to this speedy method than the other dishes, or maybe they just need to up their game somehow with the proteins. But really, there is just no excuse for the wilted wet mess of my Mediterranean Salad, or for using plastic forks when they obviously have the capability of washing dinnerware. The concept is great, but the food execution is mediocre. I hear that they are expanding into Lexington, and I really hope that they improve the food, because I'd like to...

Read moreI had the joy of hosting my baby shower at Craft Food Halls in Waltham and couldn't have asked for a better experience. The booking process, deciding the menu and paperwork were all super seamless and easy to do. We worked with Vinny, Alley, and I think Shannon (on the day of) to get everything set up. They were great and super helpful. We had the whole private room for ourselves, and it was very bright and airy. The bartended even came up with 2 mocktails on the day so that those not drinking alcohol had something fun to drink.
The cost, f&b minimum and service were great and fit well with our budget. The staff mostly left us alone and were not really overbearing in anyway. We were not disrupted or disturbed either by other guests. I definitely see myself hosting more parties here in the future and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed place to host showers, parties etc.
My one feedback would be the placement of water was less than ideal - would've been nice to have a pitcher or dispense in the room instead of having to go out every time. However it was hardly a deal breaker- I am sure the venue can figure out a way to have one set up inside as...
