We were peckish for some authentic South Indian food and this came highly recommended by Yelp. The food simply was delicious. We went as a family of myriad taste and got a variety of food including onion dosa, poori-chicken curry, vada and idli combo. While all these were very good my absolute favorite was the Ghee Podi Dosa. This dish is deceptively easy to mess up. If the dosa is too soggy the podi will get mixed with the moisture and lose flavor. If the podi is not toasted right then it will taste raw. The podi dosa here was absolutely perfect. The dosa was crisp and the podi was toasted perfectly. Before I knew it I had eaten two. The chef I later found out is also the owner of the restaurant which speaks volumes for the care they placed in the preparation of the meals. Coupled with the excellent service and masala chai which reminds me of home this place deserves to be a must stop everytime...
Read more@Chennai Central Cafe Once again, the majical artistry of fresh masala cooking by Chef Umaji has made me go to this place again and again. You can't go wrong by going this cozy place for fresh dosai or South Indian Food. Their dosai, chutneys & sambhar, ah!, it reminds me of a Thumbs-Up 👍🏼 ad from my childhood! "Aah What a feeling"💝 Again, Chef Umaji won our hearts by her articulate way of cooking with fresh masala! We had garlic Chillie & shrimp masala Dosai, with ginger, coconut chutney, and sambhar. And tasty Sputh Indian filter coffee. Her cooking is like smooth walking on water. The taste will last for a few hours and remind you to go back again and again. You can't go wrong by coming here. Coming this from a big foodie, y'all have to...
Read moreMy wife is from India and we've tried South Asian food all over the world, here in the US and abroad. Hands down, this is one of the best South Indian food we've had and rivals home made food.
The dosa was extra crispy and flavorful, the chutneys were on point, and we appreciated that you can taste the freshness in the foods. The owner and chef, Uma, is very friendly and you can tell the passion she has for her restaurant and her cooking.
We took a friend here to try it and he agreed that you can really taste the difference here when compared to other Indian restaurants.
